Hey there friends! If you don’t follow me on Instagram (and really, you should) you may not have seen my first post in this “Nails and Books” thing I am trying out. I was going to keep it just an IG thing, but some people said they would read a blog post also, so here we are.
Basically this series will feature a book I love and a nail polish that somehow works with or matches the book cover or name. Today I’ve got China Glaze For Audrey and A Million Little Pieces by James Frey.
A Million Little Pieces came out around 2003 and was a national bestseller for a long time. It’s a memoir of the author’s drug and alcohol addiction and his 6 weeks spent in rehab. It’s written as a stream of consciousness, so you won’t find quotations, semi-colons or commas in the book, which really works for the subject matter. There is a HUGE problems with the book, however.
The book isn’t really a memoir, it was later discovered. In a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, James Frey admitted that he fabricated huge sections of the book, partially because trying to get publishers interested in it as a work of fiction wasn’t working. Anyway, LONG story short, I was really disappointed that it wasn’t a “real” memoir, but it’s so incredibly unique, captivating and amazing, I don’t even care anymore if it’s fictional. It’s an excellent book about addiction either way, and well worth a read.
Ok and now the nail part. That basically speaks for itself when you see the cover of the book. China Glaze For Audrey, a Tiffany blue creme, matches the cover color perfectly. Topped with small rainbow candies and it all goes together nicely. For Audrey is one of my favorite nail shades of all time and I’m actually in need of a new bottle, if I can find one!
Hope you enjoy this series and see you next week for the third installment!
Have you read A Million Little Pieces? Did it bother you when you found out it wasn’t 100% true?
