Formula X #ColorCurators 2016 Featuring Song of Style is a brand new collaboration series which they will be releasing every month throughout 2016. Each month for 10 months, a new “polished powerhouse in beauty, fashion and wellness” will release 3 limited edition nail shades which they helped create with Formula X and Sephora.
For January they chose Aimee Song from Song of Style, who is a fashion blogger. This collection was inspired by her love for everyday basics, and it features three pale creme colors. Each of these shades covered nicely with just two coats over a ridge-filling base coat.
Girl’s Best Friend is a pale pink creme.
Mintfluencer is a pale mint creme.
Nude For You is a pale taupe/nude creme.
Pretty shades, but definitely nothing unique or all that interesting. I think of the three Mintfluencer is the most unique, but again, I’ve seen a ton of pale mint cremes in the last 4 or 5 years now. These definitely won’t impress the hard-core nail collector but those who don’t have some of these basics might want to pick ’em up.
I’m just gonna throw this out there for everyone since this is my blog and I like to give my opinions, and I know some nail bloggers (and polish aficionados) are thinking what I’m thinking. These are a bit of a disappointment. I have the February and March collections already (from Patrick Starrr and Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere) and I am just not wowed at all. Nearly all nine shades are basic neutral cremes that most people already own. There’s just one shimmer, but again, it’s not unique. I LOVE that a brand as large as this wants to work with bloggers and vloggers because it’s not really that common unless you are in the indie world. I’m just hoping they didn’t choose the people based solely on social media popularity. I would MUCH rather see a completely obscure or small blogger who has an amazing and original idea in future releases then yet another pink, red or beige from some gigantic Instagram personality. I would love to see some of my fellow nail bloggers/vloggers be included in this series, since who knows nail polish better than we do? But time will tell I guess!
You can find these on the Sephora site now.
What do you think of these shades and the whole idea behind this collaboration?
