Today I have the Hawaii Collection by OPI for Spring/Summer 2015 for you. Like the OPI San Francisco Collection, I was very excited about this one because it is more personal for me.
Why is this personal for me? Well a few reasons actually. The last time I was in Hawaii was in 2007 for my wedding on the beach in Oahu! But I also have fond memories of going to the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Hawaii and Maui as a kid on vacation many times. Also, Mr. VV was stationed in Oahu for 3 years, so we both have a nice bond with the islands.
So of course these shades were inspired by the water, sand, sunsets, lush greenery and colorful flowers of the islands. I would kill to be there right this second!
Do You Take Lei Away? is a sand-colored creme. I didn’t think much of this shade in the bottle but I kinda like it on the nails. This was two coats and it covered very nicely.
Suzi Shops & Island Hops is a light pink creme. I did need three thin coats for this one because it was on the streakier side.
Is Mai Tai Crooked? is an orange creamsicle creme. I love this color because it’s fun and very fruity looking. This was three thin coats as it was a little patchy on me.
That’s Hula-rious! is a pastel mint/pistachio creme. This is probably my favorite shade in the whole collection. It’s just perfect looking and the formula is really good as well. This was two coats.
Aloha from OPI is a bright coral creme. This is a super saturated shade and just a wee bit streaky on me with two coats. A base coat would probably take care of that though.
My Gecko Does Tricks is a vivid green with a pearly shimmery finish. I love this shade of green but not the finish. It’s rather brush-stroke-y, even with thin coats. This is two coats.
Go with the Lava Flow is a bright reddish pink shimmer. This is another one of my favorites in this collection. It is so bright and pretty, and the formula was fabulous. This was two coats.
Hello Hawaii Ya? is a dusky purple creme. This is a nice shade and it had a good formula as well. This was two coats.
Just Lanai-ing Around is a medium mauve with shimmer. Ok you probably know I am not normally a fan of mauve nail polish and I definitely didn’t think I would like this one. But it’s the shimmer that gets me. I like it! This was two coats.
Pineapples Have Peelings Too! is a yellow/gold shimmer with various colored and shaped glitter pieces. I’m just gonna say it. This is really ugly. I loathe this polish. The base color isn’t bad but those chunky pieces of glitter do not look good and they lie beneath the color so it looks all murky. Ick. This was two coats.
Lost my Bikini In Molokini is a bright cool-toned purple creme. I just wore this color over the weekend and I love it. This has a great formula and covers in two coats.
This Color’s Making Waves is a super shimmery blue/green. I like the color but this one has that same pearly brush-stroke-y finish as My Gecko Does Tricks. This was two coats.
There were some hits and misses for me with this collection, but overall I really like it, and I do think they captured a lot of the colors of Hawaii. My personal favorites are That’s Hila-rious!, Is Mai Tai Crooked?, Lost My Bikini in Molokini and Go with the Lava Flow.
This collection is available now everywhere OPI is sold and they are $9.50 each. Also something else to note: Eight of these shades have been added to The OPI Color Palette by Clark+Kensington paint at Ace Hardware. The colors included are That’s Hula-rious!, Do You Take Lei Away?, Is Mai Tai Crooked?, Aloha from OPI, Suzi Shops & Island Hops, Just Lanai-ing Around, Hello Hawaii Ya? and Lost My Bikini in Molokini.
Which of these shades are your favorites?
