theBalm Balmsai Eyeshadow and Brow Palette recently landed on my desk and as usual with theBalm products, I was super psyched to check it out. They just have the cutest packaging!
This palette includes 18 shades, which can be used as eyeshadows, brow color or liners. It includes a nice sized mirror, as well as some stencils. That’s right, inside you will find a “Brow Guide/Shadow Fallout Guard” stencil and a “Cat Eye ” stencil which can help you create four different cat eye looks. I think this is a great idea and I particularly love the idea of using these under my eye as a fallout guard. Easier and less wasteful than tissue paper.
They also recently introduced some new brushes and the one I have is called Women Empowderment. This is a double-ended eyebrow/eyeliner brush and it comes with a tube in which you can store it, if you are so inclined.
The first six of the shades they classify as “In the Buff (Basics)”.
Wipe Out is a light vanilla with slight sheen.
High Tide is a shimmery icy white.
Hang 10 is a pale taupe/gold.
Dream Boat is a pale pink shimmer.
Sandbar is a pale pink/gold duochrome shimmer.
Tubular is a light bronze shimmer.
These shades are described as the “Mavericks (Splash of Color)”
Epic is a medium brown with sheen.
Surf’s Up is a deep shimmery grey.
Big Kahuna is a medium green/blue shimmer.
Kawabunga is a goldish/greenish/taupe shimmer.
Surfari is a deep violet with blue shimmer.
Pipeline is a dark navy blue shimmer.
The first three shades are described as “Curve & Angle (Brow/Shadows)” and the second three are “Catch a Wave (Use Wet or Dry)”
Score is a light taupe/matte.
Dig It is a medium taupe matte.
Woodie is a dark chocolate brown matte.
Stoked is a dark blackened plum with purple sparkles.
Ripper is a dark brown with slight shimmer.
Righteous is a black matte with very slight shimmer.
For the most part all the shadows in this palette gave me really good payoff and they had a soft texture. A couple of the darker matte ones such as Ripper and Righteous were a little on the uneven side and I had to go over them a few times to get them as even as I could. Having said that, the rest were really good.
I like how they kind of break down the rows of colors and tell you what you could use them for. That makes things easier for times when you are half-asleep and have no idea what to do with your eye makeup that day. It’s also pretty handy to have brow shades with eyeshadow shades, as well as some darker colors you could wet down and use as liner. You can get so many looks from this like a more natural, neutral look, or a smoky look, or a colorful crazy look, etc. I think it’s great for travel! While it is a large-ish palette, it’s really slender and light, so I do think traveling with it wouldn’t be too much of an issue.
