Can we talk new and returning TV shows for fall for a minute?
Pretty much everything new has started by now and many of my old favorites have come back. So this is a list of new shows I am currently watching and old faves that I have tuned into again.
The Mysteries of Laura – Loving this show because it reminds me of the Janet Evanovich Plum Series books, and I love Debra Messing in everything she does.
The Walking Dead – Of course I am watching this again! It’s been really good this season so far!
Selfie – A new show and I am alll over it. If you are into social media you will probably love it too. It’s cute, current and the main actress (from Dr. Who, which incidentally I have never seen) is in it.
How to Get Away With Murder – I’ll be honest. I had high hopes for this once and managed to watch the first 3 episodes, but recently dumped it off my DVR. It’s just way too contrived and predictable. I don’t really like any of the characters other than Viola Davis either.
Gracepoint – I know this is the American version of the British show Broadchurch, which I have never seen. So far I like it, it reminds me of a not-so-moody version of The Killing. David Tennant is in it (another Dr. Who actor) and he was also in the British version. I intend to watch that one once this one is over.
Sons of Anarchy – DUH this is my favorite show on earth right now, and it’s in the last season, wah! It’s been good so far but I’m actually rather surprised at how tame it’s been. I don’t want to give anything away for those who haven’t caught up yet, but let’s just say, I expected more blood than I have seen so far.
Scandal – I binge-watched the first 3 seasons of Scandal on Netflix not too long ago but for some reason this season isn’t doing it for me. The more I watch it, the more the canned story lines and writing started to bother me. Initially I liked how fast everyone talked and the quick-moving plots. But now I feel like ALL the characters talk the same exact way and that’s just lazy writing. And the whole Olivia and the President thing is just really old now. Get over it Olivia.
The Good Wife – This continues to be one of the best written shows on TV! It’s always changing, always completely interesting and I love pretty much every single character on the show. Especially Kalinda, Eli and Diane. Kudos to the writing team for keeping this show at the top for so many seasons!
Homeland – Hmm. Homeland is kind of bugging me this season. I am not a fan of the fact that Carrie had this baby then is doing anything she can to not be around her. It’s starting to feel like the same old thing over and over. Carrie in a dangerous country. Bombs. Carrie in danger. Quinn saves Carrie. More bombs. Carrie has no feelings. Saul steps in and saves the day. Repeat.
American Horror Story: Freak Show – This has been SO GOOD! The whole freak show thing is utter perfection, and I love the way this whole season looks and feels. My favorite character is actually Frances Conroy yet again. I loved her best in Coven as well. The show is complete eye-candy and not in a delightful way, but in a delightfully horrific way. My kind of show.
Stalker – I am not recording this but I have watched the first three on On Demand and it’s ok. I like the creepy Stalker subject-line, but I’m not really a fan of Maggie Q. She’s too mean to my handsome Dylan McDermott, lol!
State of Affairs – This is the one new show I am interested in that hasn’t yet started. We shall see.
Nail’d It – Obviously I am watching Nail’d It on Oxygen. A show about a nail art competition? Yes please! It’s been really fun and interesting so far, I recommend it to any nail art fan.
Face Off – And of course I always watch Face Off. I am REALLY pulling for Dina to win this season, she has been freaking amazing. Why is it that cake decorators have all the skills at everything artsy?
Brooklyn Nine Nine – Still watching this and still liking it. Andre Braugher kills it.
Modern Family – Still watching this as well, although it can be a bit tedious. I watch mainly for Gloria and Phil.
The Knick – This just wrapped up on Cinemax and it was really good. It’s about the Knickerbocker Hospital in NY in the early 1900’s. Clive Owen stars as a cocaine addicted surgeon. Really well done.
Nashville – And yep, Nashville is still really good this season even though I loathe country music in general. I love the characters, outfits and the whole setting of Nashville makes it more interesting than say LA or NY to me.
I *think* that’s all I have been watching other than some here and there things on Netflix when I am all caught up with the others such as The Paradise, Gilmore Girls and Hinterland.
