The Illamasqua Once…collection for autumn 2014 is best explained by Illamasqua themselves – “The beauty of old and new endures with Once. Decadent & lavish, dabble with rich textures and autumnal, delicate colors, which are conveyed in this exquisite & harmonious fall collection.”
“Once is the beauty of the burnished, eroded and erudite. A palette inspired by the gentle and exquisite point when a flower starts to fade and becomes impossibly beautiful in its complex decline. Combined with the subtle opulence of faded gilt layers that reveal themselves the more you blend and search. She is an incandescent moment, a poem alive and a light within a pallet of decaying decadence.” Alex Box, Creative Director for Illamasqua.
I love their descriptions and I also love the gorgeous imagery for this collection, which I have included in this review. I can’t think of another brand who’s imagery is more beautiful for each of their collections.
Naked Rose is a neutral beige pink matte. Great shade for a wide variety of skin tones. It’s super soft and nicely pigmented.
Bibelot is a vintage green shade with gold and green shimmer. This is a new product and it has a creme-gel texture that dries to a somewhat powdery finish. It’s long-lasting and non-smudging. It’s very creamy and gorgeous!
Exquisite is a pink oyster shade. It’s very pretty and not as sheer as I expected it to be. Love the light scent, which is somewhat fruity.
Opulent is a light beige with pink and gold shimmer. This is more sheer but very wearable on its own or layered over lipstick. This too has the fruity scent.
Melange is a golden green with a matte finish. I know most of you wanted to see this the most out of anything else in the collection, and believe me, it’s freaking AMAZING! It’s super green and super gold all at once. It’s creamy, crazy shimmery and pigmented. It covered perfectly in two coats. I prefer it with a top coat because I like shiny shimmery shades rather than matte ones.
And now for the sad news. Illamasqua appears to have pulled out of most of North America, including Sephora stores and Sephora online. I have asked my PR contact if they have any insight as to why this happened and where the best place for those of us in the US/Canada can purchase their products, and they told me “at this time all US sales are through illamasqua.com for the fall collection. More to come on US brick and mortar in the upcoming months!” So that is interesting. I wonder what’s gonna happen with them in regular stores? Any guesses?
Is there anything in Once…that you might pick up?
