MAC A Novel Romance is the latest collection from the brand and despite the cheesiness of the name and photos, I kind of love it!
I’ll confess: I have never read a romance novel all the way through. I had a friend when I was younger who was hardcore into them, and in fact is now a Senior Editor at Harlequin Books! I would sometimes flip through them and read some of the ridiculously written lines. They are kind of fun to read actually, and I’ve had a secret fantasy of writing one for probably 25 years. 🙂
This collection wants you to fall in LUST with it, and you just might. There are some really gorgeous pigmented items here, and I was pretty impressed with everything I tried out. Eyeshadows included!
Sable is a plummy gold with bronze pearl (frost).
Sex & The Oyster is a medium seafoam green (veluxe pearl).
Black Tied is a black with silver sparkle (velvet).
Brawn is a medium plummy brown (satin).
I was rather happy with how these swatched over a primer. They are soft, pigmented and it was really easy to pick up the color. None of them are patchy or uneven. Loving the first two and last shades especially.
Pure Flash! is a pale champagne.
Coil is an intense copper bronze.
Highly Charged is a rich purple with pink pearl.
I am in love with these. First of all the squishy wet-like texture makes me so happy. They dry to a wonderful creamy/powdery finish. They are pigmented and I loved Coil so much I had to immediately put it on my lids. Coil and Highly Charged go really well together. They do dry rather quickly on the eye so you gotta get ’em in place quickly.
Black Brilliance is a jet black.
Evil Twin is a bluish purple with slight shimmer.
Water Willow is a dark khaki green with slight shimmer.
Black Brilliance and Water Willow were both nicely pigmented and even. Evil Twin was a little more uneven, and I had to do a few swipes of it to get the depth of color in the photo above. I really like the shade Water Willow because it’s a fairly unique green.
Midnight Storm is a dark magenta with shimmer.
This is a perfect jewel-toned fall shade. So pretty and the formula was excellent. I am so glad they re-did their formula. This was two creamy, smooth, even coats.
Midnight Strata is a dark violet with shimmer.
This is another one that just applied beautifully and perfectly in two coats. It’s a bright, yet deep and rich shade.
A Novel Romance is a light cool-toned pink (cremesheen).
Yield To Love is a medium rose pink (cremesheen).
Hearts Aflame is a medium brick-red (matte).
A Novel Romance is a wearable pink, even though it’s really light. It doesn’t look too whitened or 60’s, if you know what I mean. It did settle into lip lines a bit though. Yield To Love had a great, even finish. Hearts Aflame also had a good formula, and it’s a great deep red matte.
Bared For You is a light gold/rose shimmer.
Talk Sexy is a dark purple shimmer.
Animal Instincts Powder Blush is a medium plum (frost).
I really like Bared For You because it’s super shimmery and flattering on the lips. Talk Sexy doesn’t work for my skin tone, but it’s a nice warm-toned shade. Animal Instincts looks a lot darker in the pan than it swatched on me. It’s actually kind of a soft plum with slight sheen to it.
This collection will be available on the MAC website starting August 14th and in stores August 21st through October 2nd.
See anything in this collection you will be purchasing? And be honest, do you read romance novels? 😉
