Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 for Face is a new sunscreen that I have been testing out recently and have come to really like.
Now that it is officially summer, most dermatologist’s (including mine) recommend a higher SPF since the sun’s rays can be more powerful this time of year, and the days are longer which exposes you to more sunlight.
This stuff is fast-absorbing, oil-free, non-comedogenic and sweat & water resistant for 80 minutes. It comes in three types: SPF 30, SPF 50 or SPF 70. It also includes oat, which is supposed to help hydrate and nourish your skin.
It comes out white but is really completely clear on the skin. It never leaves any kind of white ghostly look behind.
It rubs into skin very quickly and easily and leaves behind a nice, light almost flowery scent. It definitely doesn’t smell or feel like a typical sunscreen to me. It feels more like a moisturizer and I love that! My skin doesn’t look greased down or feel heavy with it on, and it hasn’t affected any of my makeup on top either.
Just last week I did my yearly skin skin check at my dermatologist’s office. She did remove a very small dark mole and had it checked out. All is fine, it was benign. When I was there I asked her about what the best way to re-apply sunscreen on the face was without messing up makeup. She said that they really isn’t an easy way. There are powders with SPF in them (which I have reviewed before) however just adding a powder isn’t enough protection. She said women have to just suck it up and realize they may have to re-do their makeup (on the face anyway) because you won’t be getting enough protection unless you actually reapply, and you need a nickel-sized dollop for your face alone.
Sigh. We can’t win ’em all.
Do you up your SPF in the summer-time? What is your sunscreen routine?
