It’s not that often that I try out new skin cleansers and for some reason when I was at Rite Aid recently, I could not get these Garnier ones off my mind.
First off let me explain my skin type, which actually isn’t really either of these. I have fairly normal skin with occasional sensitivity to the rare product. Sometimes my skin does get more on the dry side, which I am experiencing more as I age. It’s never been oily but I have a light oily-shine through my t-zone after many hours. So basically, it’s normal.
I first saw the Garnier Smoothing Cream Cleanser for dry skin and it looked interesting. It’s soap-free, gently cleans the skin and is infused with jojoba and macadamia oils, which help soften the skin and keep it nicely hydrated.
It foams up really nicely and usually super foamy cleansers strip my skin and make them feel tighter and more dry. But this one doesn’t at all. The scent is light and fabulous. I used it on my face after using a separate makeup remover on my eyes and it seemed to take off all my makeup with no problem. It left my face feeling soft and hydrated.
And now for the complete opposite for oily skin! This is Shine Control Cleansing Gel with charcoal in it. I am completely enthused about charcoal and volcanic ash in products for some random reason. I think it’s because I love the MAC Volcanic Ash stuff so much!
So as mentioned this is supposed to be for oily skin. The charcoal in it draws out impurities and it helps lift pore-clogging dirt, excess oil and makeup. It also foams up nicely and didn’t dry my skin out, even though I don’t have oily skin. It leaves you with a nice matte finish and it seemed like my face was extra-smooth when I applied my SPF moisturizer over it for some reason. This has a more earthy scent to it, but it’s not unpleasant at all. I used this on skin that only had lotion on it, so I have yet to see how it does with makeup removal.
And then I decided to try out the Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller just for kicks.
This is a two-in-one roll-on product which includes vitamins for eye care and concealer for dark circles. Inside it is a caffeine gel, which energizes and stimulates micro-circulation, lemon essence which helps brighten and mineral pigments which help correct dark circles.
The roller gives eyes a nice cool feeling while it also deposits a light/medium concealer shade. You just roll it over the eye area then use a finger to lightly tap the concealer in. You can use it later on in the day as well if you need to.
So here is the problem. I just want to roll this ball across my under-eyes forever because it feels really nice, but then it would be depositing way too much concealer. The concealer shade works ok for me but it doesn’t really hide dark circles that well because it has a sheer formula. The one good thing about it being so sheer is that it hasn’t been settling into my fine lines. Supposedly using this for a week will makes eyes look brighter. We shall see. I am on day 6 of using it and no such luck yet!
Here I am wearing two light layers of it. You can see it does brighten up a little and it definitely hides some of the darkness under my eyes, but it’s not 100% gone. Then again, nothing but Photoshop ever makes it 100% gone!
Do you use any of these products and like them?
