When I was last at Sephora I came across something intriguing called Ciate Shell Manicure in She Sells Sea Shells ($25). I normally don’t purchase or cover Ciate products ever since they tried to claim they invented the “Caviar Manicure” (which in fact bloggers were posting about long before they came up with it) but this looked too interesting to pass up.
Shell Manicure comes in three different colors: She Sells Sea Shells, Mermaid You Look and Wish Upon a Starfish. Sea Sells Sea Shells was the most appealing to me because of the candy-colored crushed shell pieces. It looks so cool!
Ok so what’s inside the kit? You get a regular cream nail shade, a bottle of crushed sea shells, an instruction booklet and a little funnel to put the unused shells back into the bottle when you are finished.
The instructions are fairly straight-forward.
You paint one coat of the pink cream then wait a few minutes. Then paint the second coat one finger at a time. Once you paint your pointer nail, say, you then sprinkle the sea shells over the nail and then lightly press them into the polish so they stick better. Then keep going with all other fingers.
If you do this over the clear tray they provide you can then easily funnel all the unused pieces back into the bottle.
Then paint a top coat on and you are done.

I won’t pretend this is a sleek look by any means. It’s chunky as hell, but it still kind of looks cool. This color combo reminds me of rock candy!
I think this would look much better used as an accent nail or two rather than a full manicure. I can’t imagine all the shells will stay on that great for long, so it’s the kind of thing you would want to use for one night or a special occasion.

Really my favorite thing about this is looking at the sea shells in the bottle. They are just so darn pretty. I’m 99% sure I will never actually wear this, but I will probably pull it out from time to time and look at it. 🙂
You can find this at Sephora and Bloomingdale’s.
Is this a look you would wear for a special occasion or it is just way too weird for you?
