After much hemming and hawing over the Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette I caved and bought it. And I do not regret it at all.
This exclusive to Sephora palette costs $46.00, which might seem like a pretty price to pay, but it’s really worth it. Inside Monarch you get twelve warm-toned eyeshadows as well as a mirror and they are all encased in a heavy duty, sturdy cardboard magnetized palette. I tell ya, if it wasn’t for her awesome packaging I might never have first been attracted to her stuff, so I thank her and curse her, haha! 😉
Three of the larger-looking eyeshadows, which are base or highlight shades (or really, whatever you want) are 0.095 oz and the other nine shades are 0.049 oz.
The description from the Sephora website describes the formula: “Patented Power Last™, long-wearing formula gives you buildable, from dawn-to-dusk drama, while an infusion of antioxidants including rose extract and vitamins A, C, and E all work to keep your eyelids hydrated and protected.”
Entomology is a is a matte cream.
Wraith is a coppery orange with pearl.
Papilio is a medium chocolate with pearl.
Summerfly is a glittery gold.
Telepathy is a pale champagne pearl.
Killing Jar is a pale pink/copper pearl.
Delaney is a silver/grey with pearl.
Vanish is a light taupe matte.
Tiny Death is a cream with fine gold glitter.
Disintegration is a brown with pearl.
Shadow Box is a dark chocolate brown matte.
Deadhead is a black matte.
I found nearly all of these shades to be super soft, finely milled and very pigmented. The first four are stunning all together. The second four are all also nicely pigmented but have a lighter finish for a softer look. The final four are mostly deep and the two matte shades are not patchy whatsoever. I have to say Deadhead is what MAC Carbon wishes it was, for real!
I love that there is a great mix of light and dark shades and a good mix of pearls and mattes. You could do a super bold look using Wraith and Summerfly or something really work appropriate using Entomology and Vanish. Or go super dark and smoky with Papilio and Disintegration. Shadow Box and Deadhead would make great liners as well since they are so dark and pigmented.
Have you picked up Monarch or is it on your wish list?
