MAC Stroke Of Midnight for holiday 2013 is here!
This limited edition collection features a wide variety of items from lip and eye bags to brush kits to eye shadow compacts to face kits. The collection has very nice packaging with everything encased in black, white and gold. The compacts are all glossy black and the bags have a satin-like finish.
Femme Fi is a light gold/vanilla (veluxe pearl).
Amber Lights is a peachy brown with shimmer (frost).
Socialite is a warm copper/brown (satin).
Mulch is a mustard yellow/brown with bronze pearl (velvet).
Midnight Hour is a warm deep plum (velvet).
These had decent pigmentation and it wasn’t hard to get nice even payoff over a primer. I really like the middle three shades especially. Mulch is a oddball shade, which I really dig.
Scene is a soft muted blue/grey (satin).
All Races is a light mauve taupe (matte).
Magic Moor is a blackened plum with pearl (veluxe pearl).
Pretty shades, love the combination here. All Races and Magic Moor were the most pigmented.
Ebony is a black kohl pencil.
Sparkling Rose is a soft pink pressed powder with gold frost.
Sublime Pleasure Lipstick is a light mauve (lustre).
Romantically Inclined Lipstick is a cool plum (cremesheen).
Ebony always feels a bit too hard to me, I prefer a softer pencil. Sparkling Rose is nice but very light. I appreciate that the lipsticks are kept in an area that includes a flap to cover them so they don’t get mixed in with the shadows.
Inside the Stroke Of Midnight Eye Bag in Nude is Utterly Becoming Paint Pot, In Extreme Dimension Lash in Black, Past Twilight Fluidline and 209 Eye Liner/259 Eye Shader double-ended brush.
Utterly Becoming is a creamy pink/beige.
Past Twilight is a blackened plum.
Utterly Becoming makes a great base shade for other colors. Past Twilight was a hot mess for me. Patchy, uneven and just yuck.
Stroke Of Midnight Brush Kit Essentials features five essential brushes including: 217SE, 259SE, 212SE, 195SE and 168SE.
Overall: I like the Stroke Of Midnight Eye Palette in Warm a lot. I think the colors are all nice and the pigmentation and texture was pretty good. I do like the cool-toned eye shadows in the Stroke Of Midnight Face Palette also, but overall I wouldn’t buy it just for those. The mini-brushes that come with these kits never feel quite as nice as the full-sized ones, so keep that in mind if you are drawn to them. They do make great brushes for traveling with though. I almost always take the smaller ones rather than full-sized brushes when I am on the road.
