MAC Rick Baker is perfect for Halloween. And since I am super into the spirit this season, I was psyched when these landed on my doorstep today!
In case you don’t know who Rick Baker here, here’s the scoop. He’s a special effects makeup artist who has been in the business since the 1970’s. He done work in many movies including Harry and the Hendersons, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Men in Black, Ed Wood, The Ring, Batman Forever, X-Men The Last Stand, Tropic Thunder, King Kong, etc.
The great thing about some of these products is you can use them year round, they aren’t solely for Halloween looks.
The Monster’s Bride ($44)
Paintstick Pure White ($21)
Acrylic Paint Black Black and Pure White ($21)
Chromagraphic Pencil Black Black, Hi-Def Cyan ($16)
Monster FX Dirt ($22)
Mylar, Bitter, Brun (over primer)
Mylar is a cream-colored shade with satin finish.
Bitter is a bright lime green with shimmer and a velvet finish.
Brun is a deep chocolate brown with a satin finish.
Omega, Club, Carbon (over primer)
Omega is a cool-toned taupe matte (I used this for my brows for probably 10 years).
Club is a red-brown with green pearl and a satin finish.
Carbon is a matte black. This one is always, always, always chalky I wish they would fix the formula!
Paintstick in Pure White, Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan, Black Black
Pure White is a really creamy bright opaque white. Can’t wait to use this!
Hi-Def Cyan is a bright sky blue. I love this shade and have used it a few times. So creamy and intense.
Black Black is a deep black.
Acrylic Paint in Pure White, Black Black and Monster FX in Dirt
Pure White is a pure white. Yep.
Black Black is a super opaque jet black.
Dirt is a warm dirty brown shade. This might be the one you can only use on Halloween, haha!
Overall: Well this is billed as a Halloween type collection since it’s associated with Rick Baker and the colors are very Halloween-ish, but most of these things you can use any time of year. I think the best items here though are the Paintstick, Acrylic Paints and Chromagraphic Liner. I am intrigued by the Monster FX though and might try using it for a Halloween look coming up.
And now just for giggles I decided to try the Acrylic Paint out and do a mime look, which should be easy, right? Well I am not great at painting my face, I am just beginning to learn some things, so it didn’t come out perfect.
The Pure White Acrylic Paint is a little streaky and not completely opaque with one coat, so I used a couple. But I was also using a kind of cheap brush to apply it, so that might be part of the uneven look.
The Black Black shade is nice and opaque though. And I used Black Black Chromagraph Pencil all around my eye rim and to outline the lips, which didn’t work out very well as it skipped a lot in that area. Live and learn.
Better luck next time! 😉
