Just added to the permanent line are MAC Veluxe Pearlfinish Shadow palettes, which come in six shade combinations.
Veluxe Pearlfinish Shadows each have five complimentary shadows inside which are either satiny, metallic or glittery. You can use them either dry for a more sheer coverage or wet for a really intense metallic shine.
I swatched all of these dry over a primer and I got pretty good pigmentation that way with most. I suspect the really glittery shades work better wet and would be less prone to fallout that way as well.
The one thing with these palettes is it’s definitely harder to pick up the color from the thinner strips on the top and bottom of the palette. I get that it looks nice from a design perspective but I wish they were a bit wider!
Smokeluxe features a very pale pink/champagne, a glittery smoky green/grey, a shimmery taupe rose/gold, a shimmery grey and a satiny black.
I found these to be rather pigmented and nice over a primer with the exception of the first shade, which barely shows up. The three middle ones are really pretty.
Brownluxe features a pale warm champagne, a pale nude/orange satin, a glittery intense gold, a glittery deep olive green/brown and a dark chocolate brown satin.
The first two here are really light and not so easy to get much color out of. The last three are amazing and that gold is VERY intense.
Blueluxe features a glittery silver, a glittery pale blue, a glittery blue/purple, a satiny deep blue and a black with blue shimmer.
The first three of these are super, duper glittery and messy. Pretty but messy. The fourth blue is really pretty and the black with blue shimmer was very opaque.
Pinkluxe features a glittery light pink, a glittery medium pink, an intense metallic raspberry pink, a super glittery blackened pink and a deep purple with pink shimmer.
These all had pretty nice pigmentation dry except the fourth uber-glitter one. Messy! Love the middle pink shade especially here.
Overall: I’m not thrilled with the design of the palettes because it’s not easy to get to all the shades. The glitter ones are most certainly prone to fallout, so there is that to consider. I think the best overall of these four for me are Smokeluxe and Brownluxe because they tended to have less glittery shades.
Availability: MAC’s permanent line starting in June.
