Smashbox Shades of Fame Eye Shadow Palette is a new piece in their summer 2012 collection.
This palette contains a mini tube of their Photo Finish Lid Primer as well as nine powder eyeshadows, two creme liners and a double-ended brush you can use for both eyeshadows. Also included a big mirror inside and a “Get the Look” pamphlet featuring three eye looks!
The shadow shades run the gamut from bright pops of color, to a light but super strong duochrome to dark and smokey. All the shadows were really soft and had great payoff. They’re smooth and easily blend-able. Really great mix of colors here.
Bliss, Honey, Sandstone, Nude, Sherbert
Bliss is a pale vanilla/white matte.
Honey is a very strong pink/yellow duochrome. This one actually kinda blew my mind. As you can see above, in the pan it looks straight up yellow/gold with a hint of pink shimmer. But on the skin it’s heavily pink/yellow/gold. Gorgeous and very unique!
Sandstone is a light pale golden metallic.
Nude is a medium tan matte. Of all of them, this was the least smooth and patchiest of the bunch.
Sherbert is a bright warm coral orange with heavy gold micro glitter. This is another one that is really incredible. SO vivid and saturated. The gold glitter is really nice with this shade.
Safari, Pacific, Praline, Mocha, Gold creme liner, Bronze creme liner
Safari is a deep murky olive green with gold shimmer. Beautiful.
Pacific is a bright aqua shimmer. Pigmented and gorgeous. Looks amazing next to Praline!
Praline is a saturated old gold metallic. This one is SOOOO pigmented and pretty. A must have.
Mocha is a dark and pigmented cool brown with slight shimmer. Great payoff!
Gold creme liner is a burnt warm gold. Felt creamy and rich.
Bronze creme liner is a deep brown/bronze shade. Nice and creamy as well.
Overall: At first glance this palette seemed a little hum drum to me aside from the bright shades. But I was very impressed with the color payoff and the variety of shades after swatching them. There are some in here I would definitely buy if they were full sized and they are Honey (the most unique), Sherbert (another amazing and unique one), Pacific and Praline.
I like the creme liners but not sure I would use them as much, and they may dry up fast.
The brush is nice and definitely not a throw-away type. The domed side is soft and big enough to easily use with the powder shadows. The other synthetic flat side makes easy work of patting on creme liner.
I do feel this palette, just on the powder shadows alone, is worth the price because of the great range of colors, finishes and pigmentation.
Pricing: $48.00 for 0.40 oz (total powder weight) 0.10 oz (total creme liner weight).
What do you think about the shadows in the Shades of Fame Eye Shadow Palette? Anything here you are loving?
