Elle Cosmetics is a new brand being sold exclusively at Kohl’s stores as of April 2012. This collection for eyes, nails, lips, and face was inspired by the runway and includes a wide range of shades.
The nail lacquers come in 28 shades, the eyeshadows come in 24 shades, the blushes in 8 shades and the lip gloss comes in 15 shades. They also have bronzers, blushes, eye liners, mascaras, lipsticks and lip liners.
One thing I am not thrilled about is some of the products don’t have actual names, just numbers. And to make it more confusing, some of the numbers are the same for say both blush and lip gloss. To me that makes them feel “cheaper” than I prefer. Very hard to remember a random number on a product over a name.
The packaging is all in shiny lacquered black, and overall feels and looks okay. It doesn’t feel as nice as I would want for the price of most of the products though. I did have an issue with the lip gloss top not lining up with the bottom of the tube.
Tropical Blush, Trouble In Taupe
#01 (lipstick), #10 (eye shadow), #08 (blush), #08 (lip gloss)
#01 lipstick is a medium shimmery warm bronze/gold shade. It’s not normally my kind of shade, but I think it’s actually not too dark or brown for me. Nice even texture, felt comfortable on the lips and no scent/taste.
#10 eye shadow is a really pretty shade of a gold/peach. It’s shimmery and feels medium/soft. Nice payoff.
#08 blush is a medium rose pink matte. I got nice payoff with the shade, but it’s not quite as soft as I prefer for a blush.
#08 lip gloss is a super shimmery peach/gold shade. I like this color though it basically looks like a clear gloss with glitter when it’s on my (rather pigmented) lips. It’s not super sticky, only a bit. I detect a slight vanilla scent to it.
Tropical Blush is a medium coral/orange creme. I do like this color because I feel it’s a little more cool-toned and “cantaloupe” looking than most corals and oranges we have been seeing lately. The formula wasn’t the greatest though. It was a bit uneven, even after three coats I have some streaks.
Trouble In Taupe
Trouble In Taupe is a deep cool-toned taupe creme. Reminds me a lot of OPI You Don’t Know Jacques, which is one of my favorite nail shades ever. Love the deep cool tones. The formula was much better with this one, and I only needed two coats.

#10 eye shadow and Milani Brown Stone Eyeshadow with Revlon Smoky Crayon in Bronze Smoke as liner.
Overall: I think while some of the products were nice, they are over priced for the texture and quality you get. If I’m paying $16.00 for an eye shadow it needs to be AMAZING, and the one I tried was just good. I feel like the quality was maybe more on par with some inexpensive drug store brands, but you’re paying higher end prices.
Availability: Exclusive to Kohl’s.
Pricing: Nail lacquer ($10 for .3 oz), Lipstick ($16 for .13 oz), Lip Gloss ($16 for .17 oz) Blush ($16 for .11 oz).
