OPI Spider-Man is a new limited edition collection that is coming out in May and was inspired by the new Sony Pictures movie The Amazing Spider-Man which comes out in July. This collection features six new shades as well as a new shatter color.
Ever since I was a kid Spider-Man has been my favorite comic book character. I used to watch the old cartoons on TV constantly, so I was excited to see this collection in person.
Let’s check it out.
My Boyfriend Scales Walls
My Boyfriend Scales Walls is a crisp white creme. Surprisingly, this white wasn’t too streaky or chalky looking. I actually really like it because I’m always looking for an easy to apply white. This was two coats.
Call Me Gwen-Ever
Call Me Gwen-Ever is a coral creme. Nice formula it was thin, smooth and opaque in just two coats.
Your Web Or Mine?
Your Web Or Mine? is a frosty medium pink. Not my favorite because of the finish. Looks very 80’s to me. It applied a bit streaky, as frosts will do. This was two coats.
Shatter The Scales over Your Web Or Mine?
Shatter The Scales is a dark shimmery green shatter. I had some problems with this one! No matter how long or short a time period I waited, I couldn’t get it to shatter like it probably should. So on the fourth try I just gave up and wound up with this. Not really a fan of this combo, but it might look cool over something else.
Into The Night
Into The Night is a dark blue shimmer. This is bordering on being a blurple but not quite. Nice shade, good formula but nothing all that unique I don’t think. This was three coats.
Just Spotted The Lizard
Just Spotted The Lizard is a yellow/green/gold multi-chrome. And yes, it’s a dupe for Chanel Peridot, which you will see below in a second. Gorgeous color, however I think we can agree it’s no longer unique. Too bad OPI couldn’t come up with a slightly different multi-chrome combo to make it special. I now have FOUR nail polishes this exact shade! The formula was good, barely streaky and three coats.
Number One Nemesis
Number One Nemesis is a deep metallic green shimmer. And this one is basically a dupe for Chanel Graphite (again you will see below). Very cool shade, just not unique anymore. Nice formula, three coats.
OPI Just Spotted The Lizard on ring & pointer, Chanel Peridot on pinky & middle
OPI Just Spotted The Lizard on pointer, Chanel Peridot on middle
So as you can see, there is virtually no difference in these. I call them dupes!
OPI Number One Nemesis on ring & pointer, Chanel Graphite on pinky & middle
OPI Number One Nemesis on pointer, Chanel Graphite on middle
There is a very slight difference between these one, but they are pretty similar. Chanel Graphite is slightly more silvery, less green and has more glittery bits. But they are super close!
Overall: I am a bit disappointed with this collection. I feel like the shades that could have really stood out were the greens, and they wound up being copies of other shades already out there. The others were just a bit hum drum.
Availability: Starting in May and limited edition.
Pricing: $8.50.
What do you think about Spider-Man? Did it live up to what you had been hoping for or a disappointment?

I have always been a Spiderman nut. When I was in grade 10 I got Spiderman pencil case that I still have and use to this day lol
I’m not thrilled by the collection but love Just spotted the lizard and my boyfriend scales the walls. If you already have four of the same just send one my way 😉
Awesome swatches as usal Kelly!
How do you think, which polishes are similar to Into the Night, but need less coats?

I would recommend Kotori by Zoya: https://www.artofbeauty.com/rd/010DE366
I was so excited when I heard grumbles about a comic book line of polishes, but now that I’ve seen the swatches I am beyond disappointed. I don’t think anyone at OPI has even cracked open a Spider-Man comic.
Your Web Or Mine? what were they thinking? Bleegh.
I wanted an Avengers collection! Not Spiderman. I don’t really like him… Hulk green, a matte charcoal with red and pewter glitter, a red and gold duo chrome, black with large red glitter, black with purple and gold glitter, and a red white and blue glitter fest… THE AVENGERS. Thank you and good night!
I might pick up the white, and China Glaze is coming out with a CF dupe of Peridot in the summer/fall, so I’ll keep holding out. I’ll look at the graphite dupe though, definitely. But always on the look out for a nice white and a nice yellow. Own so many because I had hope…
I already have Peridot and Graphite, but I’m pretty disappointed with the rest of the collection. Good for my wallet, though!
That pink frost is atrocious. I love the look of the white, so I plan to get that. I’ll also get the Chanel dupes because, while I loved the look of the Chanel polishes, I wasn’t about to pay $25 a bottle. $9 (or less) is much more palatable.
I like Number One Nemesis and Just Spotted the Lizard. I don’t have Graphite or Peridot, so they would be good options for me.

I was unimpressed with this collection too. I don’t have either of the Chanel polishes, but haven’t been lusting after either of the colors so I doubt that I’d buy the OPI dupes.

I want the Chanel dupes! I don’t have anything like those two anyway so I think I could justify it for myself 😀

I have the original black shatter nail polish from OPI and I also had a problem with this one since the first use . It just did not wanted to shutter like it should . OPI should work on the formula of this one .
The Chanel dupes may not be unique anymore, but none of the other dupes are easily available to me whereas OPI is! I actually think those will be the only two I purchase out of this collection. Otherwise, I’d just skip over this one entirely.
Not very impressive colors for Summer. They all seem very drab. I won’t be buying anything.

I have ordered some of these except for your first 3. I amso excited that they match the Chanel lacquers! I just wont pay what Chanel wants for their lacquers! I am happy with what I ordered1

This collection is really disappointing, the only colors that worth something, are Chanel dupes… What a great opportunity to launch a creative and unique collection wasted!!
Number One Nemesis and Just Spotted the Lizard are on my list. I don’t have any of the dupes so I wouldn’t mind getting these ones. I also like Shatter the Scales, enough that I might try to work with it.
If I didn’t already buy a back-up of Chanel Peridot, I would buy the OPI version. Even though I’m not excited about any of these, I’m glad that now some people will be able to get the colour of Chanel Peridot more readily in OPI form.

I’m actually not that disappointed, though I can see where you’re coming from! I kind of regret grabbing Peridot now, because I prefer the formula and brush of OPI nail polishes!

I can make sense of some of the color choices, but WHERE IS THE RED? That said, I don’t have dupes for the Chanel colors, so I may pick up Number One Nemesis, and I’m kind of digging My Boyfriend Scales Walls and Shatter the Scales. Also, a frosty pink? Is that for Aunt May to wear?

Kinda meh. I kinda dig the Chanel dupes because I love OPI’s formula, but this could have been a lot cooler. If they ever do a batman collection I’m in trouble though, because unique or not I’m fangirling and buying it all lol.
i’m getting the two that are chanel dupes since I don’t have those shades and wanted them!
Socialite Dreams´s last post…My Favorite Nude Lip Combo
a flat blue, with red shatter over it would be a good spiderman combo, or even red and black. odd colors they chose! maybe its something to do with the new movie that we don’t know yet?
I just ended up feeling that none of these are ‘Spiderman’ shades.. would it have hurt to put in a red?! It annoys me a little that this is clearly just a money-pulling collection, with the two Chanel dupes, it seems OPI was just looking for a collection to bung them into. Oh well. Wonderful swatches, anyway Kelly! xx

Kinda wish companies would stop duping others because it doesn’t make you seem creative but I can understand why they do. On a side note I’m a huge spider man fan so there goes my paycheck
I have to say I am disappointed but will probably end up with the two Chanel dupes since they are hard to get here and the white. I think this collection could have been awesome and turned out to be a bit of a let down. Wouldn’t a blue jelly base with red glitter or the opposite have been amazing? I think I am going to have to make my own!
Your swatches are beautiful, as always, but once again OPI has left me underwhelmed. A pink FROST?! Goodness.
I guess this is good for me because I’m too frugal to buy Chanel polish. I’m a little disappointed there isn’t a really fabulous red in this collection, though.
And China Glaze looks like it is coming out with its own version of Chanel Peridot in it’s upcoming duochrome collection later this summer. Kind of silly if you ask me. I bought the Jessica version which I absolutely adore. This entire collection is a pass for me.

I am SO disappointed in this collection. This could have been a great opportunity to come up with something super unique, and instead we see the trendy colors, just with Spiderman names? No thanks, OPI.
So … This collection is full of not-so-unique and “been there, done that” colors. I think that’s PERFECT for this collection, since the new Spider-Man reboot/movie looks unoriginal and “been there, done that.” Haha!
With that said, I’ll probably pick up the mini set for collector’s purposes. I’m a hardcore Spider-Man fan, and I’ll pick up anything with his face on it! 🙂
I guess if I had to pick favorite colors, I would pick My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Just Spotted The Lizard, and Into The Night.
I can’t wait for this collection!
OPI finally came out with something to my liking^^
I top 3 picks: Into The Night, Just Spotted The Lizard, and Number One Nemesis!
so gorgeous! not a big fan of crackles tho~
Im not that impressed but I missed out on Graphite so I really think once I find this I will want Number One Nemisis.
#1 Nemisis is probably the only one I’m going to get.

Shatter the Scales looks really nice on Spotted the Lizard and Number One Nemesis. I still have NO IDEA what that pink is in there. It’s so strange. I’m actually really tempted for the blue, Spotted the Lizard, Number One Nemesis, and Shatter the Scales.
I don’t really like a lot of these, to be honest. They don’t seem that special.. like you said, it’s pretty much all been done before. I guess it’s hard to come up with stuff, though. I like Into the Night the best, but I don’t think I’ll get anything from this collection.
Jessica Iridescent Eye is a still cheaper dupe for Peridot, if anyone’s just interested in that.

I am so looking forward to this collection. Hey if you didn’t like it that much you can always give it me. You don’t need these nail polishes there just there and collect dust. Just kidding, but seriously if you needed to get rid of them keep me in mind. Thanks for the great swatches.
I’m excited for the Chanel dupes because I would never spend the money on Chanel, but now I can have the colors! 🙂

I really like The Scales, Just Spotted the Lizard and Number One Nemesis! In reality, I can’t get all 3, so I’ll probably only get Number One Nemesis.

Jessica’s Iridescent Eye is also a dupe for Spotted the Lizard. And Revlon’s Carbonite for #1 Nemises.
Not terribly excited about the other shades.
I wanted a dupe for Chanel so I was glad I saw your swatches and I got Lizard. Did they change the brush? Bad brush in my bottle? Ugh. Streaky on me too. I’ll try using a different brush next time and see if it goes on better.
