OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) has a new fall 2011 collection out called Pretty Boy which includes six fabulous new Lip Tars! Yahoooo!
Most of these are very wearable colors straight out of the tube, but as you know, they can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content as well.
OCC is a vegan and cruelty-free company so they are definitely one of my favs. There is no guessing with them!
If you aren’t familiar with Lip Tars, here’s the skinny. They come in what looks like a lip gloss tube, but they are really super incredibly saturated colors that are more like a lipstick consistency with a shiny gloss finish.
You DO NOT apply them straight out of the tube (as the opening might imply) because things will get very messy very quickly. 😉 Rather, put just the smallest amount you can imagine on a lip brush and apply that way. If you have feathering happening on your lips, you used too much.
They last forever, are very opaque and have a peppermint scent to them.
Banjee, Butch, Femme, Narcissus, Pretty Boy, Queen
Banjee is a bright tangerine orange. BRIGHT!
Butch is a gorgeous periwinkle blue color. Obviously this is the one that is the least wearable, but this color is one of my favorite colors so I love it!
Femme is a pale cotton candy pink.
Narcissus is a lavender based medium pink.
Pretty Boy is a gorgeous fuchsia.
Queen is a really bright reddish pink.
Banjee
Butch
Femme
Narcissus
Pretty Boy
Queen
Queen and Butch=deep purple
I decided to play around with these a little and show you what a little mixing of the colors can get you. As mentioned you just need the smallest amount. really you only need half of what I have here or less!
This is Queen and Butch mixed together to create a really pretty purple.
Femme and Butch=cool lavender
Here we have Femme mixed with Butch to create a very cool-toned lavender. Love this color, reminds me of a MAC I have.
Banjee and Butch=green/grey
Here I mixed Banjee with Butch and got this god awful greenish grey color, haha! This would be great for a zombie Halloween look or something though.
Pretty Boy and Narcissus=bright pink
Then I mixed Pretty Boy with Narcissus and got a very pretty bright pink.
Pretty Boy, Narcissus and Butch= medium bright purple
I then added a touch of Butch to that combo above and got another really great purple color!
Femme and Banjee=muted tangerine
Here I mixed Femme with Banjee and came up with a somewhat muted yet still kind of bright tangerine/orange color.
Femme, Banjee and Pretty Boy=pinky/coral
Then I added a little Pretty Boy to it and got a deeper more pink/tangerine/coral kind of color.
Overall:
Fun! I love Lip Tar because you only need a very small amount. The color lasts all day. The colors are saturated and really fun to play around with. Also when you get just a couple you can come up with so many color options by playing around with them so you get good bang for your buck!
Availability: Their website.
Pricing: $13.00 each.
What do you think about these colors? Any you would wear?

I love that you can mix OCC’s Lip Tars like that.
Weirdest thing just happened, though… My husband walked by and pointed to your swatch of Butch and said “That’s AWESOME!” Lol. I think he has Halloween on the brain. ^_^
OOOH, now i understand. whenever people used to talk about the OCC lip tars and i’d see the purples/blues, i was always wondering who wears them just on their own. now i understand they are meant to be mixed. haha, thanks for clearing that up for me. 🙂
i’m not much of a lip color girl, i like just clear gloss/balms, or very neutral my lips but better colors.

I thought it looked like China…
Love OCC lip tars! Such a cool concept 🙂 Sleek makes something called Paint Pouts which is similar to lip tars but a little cheaper. Sadly, Sleek is only available overseas.

I own a few tubes of Lip Tar and I can say this: I don’t know how I went so long without them.
I’ve heard so many good things about Lip Tars, they seem so cool. Great colors. 🙂
I must have Pretty Boy and Queen. I have Hoochie and Anime and they are fantastically bright and pigmented.
I would wear Butch every day. Then again, I already rock a blue lipstick nearly daily, so that doesn’t surprise me any. Butch would absolutely match my eyes, though.
I LOVE that you mixed some together!!! I haven’t seen any other blogger do this yet and of course now I want these even more. I love the purple color you created, even though I would never wear it 😛

I have no idea what people wear these bright, different colors for but it would be awesome for costumes like cosplay and halloween!

Very cool colours and I love your combinations!

I’ve got a few of their tubes already and I adore them so much, Anime is by far my favorite of the ones I own, but it looks like Pretty Boy might knock that one out of the running. I really like how Banjee is a pure true orange. Thanks for the swatches!
D’Anna´s last post…Hello! I just read your post about the Konad stampers and how you wanted some Bundle Monster ones! Well, I just got my BM plates in the mail yesterday from Amazon. I think it was 21 plates for $17.99 — I just used my first pattern and love the way it turned out! Good luck with your future purchases! 🙂
I’m sold! I’ll be buying some of these. SOON! Thanks for showing the mixing possibilities. Well, my wallet isn’t thanking you haha!
UGGGH! You are seriously hurting my wallet, LOL! Been putting off buying these for ages, but every time you do a review of the lip tars I fall in love. Definitely will have to invest in the VERY near future!
Color mixing!! What a novel idea!
I really like the comically vivid colors though I’m not sure I could pull them off. The word “tar” leads me to believe they are really tough to work with, in addition to being sticky and difficult to mix, so it’s nice to see the swatches and the colors being manipulated. Thanks.
Hi April,
Not difficult at all and not sticky! Smooth and creamy in fact 🙂
I keep seeing amazing things about these, but the texture in every swatch always looks so sticky! Do they stay sticky and glossy and kind of wet-looking on the lip, or do they kind of dry down and set that way?
Hi Melissa,
They are not sticky at all. They’re really creamy and nice. They do stay glossy since they are kind of a hybrid of lipstick and a gloss.
I’d love to own them all. What fun you’d have playing with all the different shades. Pretty Boy is just that!
Did you try your banjee/butch on? Sometimes find ones like that look like they would be awful on, but are gorge. Might try and see.
Hi Bobisoc,
No didn’t try any of the mixes I did on.
Very pretty, Kelly! Thx for doing swatches of these.
When I first saw your swatches, I was very impressed with the pigmentation, but I didn’t think I could pull off any of those shades. Then I saw your colour experiments – thanks for including that! 🙂
They really are like paint that can be mixed to achieve the perfect colour. They look like fun items to have, and I’ve been wanting to mix my own purple lip colour. 🙂

Heyy! Great review!! So if I put some white in Narcissus can I get Femme?
I <3 lips tars! I already have so many, though. (If you buy several, they give you a permanent 20% discount *shame*)
Do you have Hush? How does Femme compare?
Anime & Pretty Boy?
I sometimes rock a Strutter/Anime mix that may be similar to Queen… or not..
It's so hard to tell how shades from the new collection differ, from those that came before, without comparison pics. I have searched the deepest darkest recesses of the net. They do not exist. (-_-)
Do you store your mixes or only mix enough for one wear? I'm trying to find some small airtight containers for mixes that i tend to repeat.
