MAC Me Over! MAC Basics collection is the largest of the three and it includes 25 pieces.
This collection focuses on classic colors and basics that everyone might want to include in their makeup wardrobe. There are a lot of very easy-to-wear pieces in here and it’s probably the most universal one.
The collection includes six eye shadows (Moleskin, Creamy Bisque, Outre, Satin Taupe, Mythical and Carbonized), two eye kohls (Teddy, Smolder), four lipsticks (Secret Lover, Peachstock, Offshoot, Oh, Oh, Oh), two cream colour bases (Take Root, Seaside) two powder blushes (Equilibrium, Stunner), four lipglasses (Illicit Social Light, Curvaceous, Plum Fun), two lip pencils (Spice, Chestnut), Studio Fix Fluid (NW20), Studio Fix Powder (NC35) and Studio Finish Concealer (NW25).

Moleskin
Moleskin, Outré, Mythical, Carbonized
Moleskin is a medium, warm, matte nude brown color. I was surprised that it wasn’t patchy, as I expected a matte would be. Really nice easy to wear color.
Outré is a deep mustard yellow color, also matte. This was definitely patchy and a really oddball color. I am interested in trying it out because it’s so different.
Mythical is a frosted copper color. This was very pigmented and really nice. These colors work so well with blue-eyed ladies!
Carbonized is a deep frosty dark brown (veluxe pearl). This is a gorgeous pigmented brown. Love it.
Powder Blush Stunner

Colour Creme Base Take Root
Colour Cream Base Take Root
Stunner, Take Root
Powder Blush Stunner is a light coral pink satin color. SO gorgeous! This might be my new favorite MAC blush because I love these pinks. Very flattering and soft.
Take Root is a deep red/brown frost. Hmm I’m not sure what I could do with this one on myself because it’s so dark, but it is nicely pigmented and soft. This isn’t approved for use in the lip area.
Lipglass
Illicit, Curvaceous, Social Light
Illicit is described as a creamy neutral pink but it’s very peach/apricot colored on my skin. It settled into my lip lines quite a bit.
Curvaceous is a light greyed out pink. Another one that settled into my lips lines.
Social Light is a pearly medium peachy pink. SO pretty! I love this one, no settling into lip lines and very shimmery and nice.

Peachstock, Oh, Oh, Oh
Peachstock is a neutral satin pink, which is much more peach on me than pink. It’s got a little of that “mod” look to it on my skin, but also looks kind of nude. Not sure I love it just yet, though it went on evenly and is nicely pigmented.
Oh, Oh, Oh looks really scary in the tube but was surprisingly nice and light! It’s a bronze-y plum with pearl (lustre) and a little sheer. Love the color once it was on my lips and I love the gold shimmer in it.

Oh, Oh, Oh
Overall:
I liked a lot of what I saw here, especially the eye shadows and the blush. Also love Social Light Lipglass. I think everyone will be able to find some good pieces in this one.
Availablity: August 25th in North America and September Internationally
Pricing: $14-$26.50
What do you think about MAC Basics? Anything here calling your name?

The Oh, Oh, Oh lipstick looks stunning on you! Now I’m tempted to get this and Social Light when they come out. Thanks for swatching these.
🙁 I was hoping for so much more, the whole collection feels constrained and matronly.
Its lacking “Fun” or edginess… Oh well…
Ooh I love the gold shimmer in Oh, Oh, Oh but it does look quite sheer!
Mythical is quite lovely. I bet it would look great in the crease as part of a brown smoky eye. ::sigh:: I love Peachstock on medium skinned ladies, but I don’t think my ghostly skin could handle it.
Almost everything is too warm toned and would clash with my skin tone, but I really like Stunner and Oh, Oh, Oh. I want Oh, Oh, Oh but almost don’t want to get it because I’m dreading telling people the name when they ask what lipstick I’m wearing, haha.
Social Light Lipglass & Mythical
Nice swatches. I think I may have to spring for Mythical, Oh Oh Oh, and Stunner! You gotta love MAC!
Can you use Cream Color Bases on the eye area, because I think Take Root would be great on the eyes.
Social Light is making me drool!
Take Root looks really nice! I love dark cream colors.
Hi Kelly – I have been a long time MAC person – and I think if you go back in their collections – dupes or very similar ( to most ppl a dupe?)colors are constantly a reissue here. I love make-up – LOVE it, and have more than I can ever wear, but – MAC seems to exist on it’s good name sometimes – sometimes the things aren’t wearable and again, they’re dupes. Outre is what Ochre used to be, and Oh, Oh, Oh, is “O” lite…. Mythical looks like copper pigment in a pan or maybe even Honesty minus the silver flakes – hard to tell unless they’re next to each other. If you ever want to compare – let me know – I have a lot of the old stuff… ! I guess in the end – if it’s new to you – it’s new! Thanks for always posting such great stuff!
Hi Di,
Yep I have been wearing MAC since 1991! 🙂 I agree their quads are pretty much always patchy and no good, but they have been my fav makeup brand for 20+ years because they have a TON of stuff that is great.
Oh, Oh, Oh weirds me out. Even it’s name is stupid! My brain can’t compute how it looks so dang different from the tube to the skin.
I really like Outre! It does seem really soft/patchy, but I’m loving the mustard yellows right now.
loving “socialite”
this is probably the part of the collection I love more… although I really like fluidlines and vampy lipsticks of the new black one! here I can see quality!!! uhh and thanks, your swatches are really accurate^^^^^^
Is outré in any way similar to the ochre color from double feature 4?
“Oh Oh Oh” seems like a dirtier name than “Orgasm”. Makes me think of that douche in “Office Space”. Nice color, though.
