I think I might have found one of my very favorite products on earth in Dr. Jart+’s Premium Beauty Balm. No really, after two weeks of using it, I am seriously in love.
What IS it you ask? It’s one of those newfangled just now coming to America BB Cremes. They have been huge overseas for a couple years but now everyone and their mother are selling them here, and I am REALLY happy about it!
A BB Creme is basically an all-in-one type of face product. They are a moisturizer, sunscreen (usually), primer and foundation all mixed into one bottle.
Premium Beauty Balm contains an SPF of 45, which is HUGE for me. It’s also got an anti-aging Serum with Bio-Peptides (sure can’t hurt at this age), and antioxidants.
The product comes in a pump style which makes it easy to keep clean and get out as much as you need.
Now the thing about this stuff is there is only one color. It just so happens that the color is completely undetectable once blended into my skin, but obviously that won’t be the case for everyone.
I have been using the stuff for a couple weeks now and I really do completely adore it. But it’s not without a couple small issues. I have been using it on my face over a moisturizer, although it does feel moisturizing on it’s own. You can use it as a base under foundation, but honestly, for most people I think that’s overkill. I use nothing else with it.
Pros:
Feels silky smooth and blends in easily
Does an excellent job of masking pores as a primer would
Great coverage. It’s basically a foundation for me
Doesn’t fade or wear off throughout the day
Doesn’t settle into fine lines at all
SPF 45 and anti-aging serum is a very nice bonus
Cons:
Just one color
By noon I need to blot my face a bit because I do tend to get shiny
A little on the expensive side at $39 for 1.4 oz
Honestly I really feel no need to bother with primers and foundations now because this is doing everything I want. I will be using it until the last drop is in the tube and will most likely be purchasing it after that because this all-in-one product is the lazy girls way. 🙂
Availability: Sephora
Pricing: $39.00
Have you tried any BB Cremes?

I’d love to try it (or any other BB cream). I’ve been looking for it for quite some time now. But where I live it’s so difficult to find certain products… I think I’ll quit looking around beauty shops and find an online store. Same thing for primers: I bought mine online cause I never seen any in perfumeries and drugshops…. :/
Hi JenMei,
Yeah I sometimes find that ordering online is just much easier. If I have to look for something too long I get so annoyed.
All of the sudden everyone is putting out BB Creams…I’m excited because I’ve always wanted to try but have been skeptical about ordering off ebay. Thanks for the review, since we’re about the same color I’m thinking this would work well for me!
…I’ve also been wondering that since color variety is a big deal in America, maybe the BB Cream shades offered here will be more diverse instead of just a few light, yellow-toned shades.
Hi Emma,
I am really happy they are getting super popular also. I really love this one, it’s like the perfect combination of all other products I use!
I’m about as pale as you so if this works on you I’m sure it will work for me! And I rarely wear foundation but applying the layers of moisturizer, sunscreen, and then foundation (if i wear it) gets so old. You’ve made me want to try this! I’ll ask for a small sample the next time I’m at Sephora.
Hi Jessi,
Hope you like it!
I have used BB creams since before America discovered them of late. I used Clarins Beauty Balm all the way back in the late 80’s. It was a hydrating mask, a moisturizer, a brightener, mid day pick me up. Interesting that American manufactures/markets just glommed on to these of late. I have always been one to look for multi-tasking products. My moisturizer I always Frankened with foundation and spf before they started coming out with spf tinted moisturizers. Glad to know about this brand. I will check it out with a sample when I am in San Francisco next time.
I have this BB cream as well and I love it (I’m wearing it right now actually!)
It is great for really hot days since it is so light. I usually add a light dusting of MSFN over it and I’m good for most of the day.
Hi Bailey,
Nice!
Oh, I will definitely be trying this one – I hate putting on all the layers with all the heat and humidity here. I know I pay more than $39.00 for all the layers on my face – LOL!
I just wish someone would post a list of silicone-free BB creams – if such a thing existed. Summer is already a time when I have to be more aware of sweat and dirt clogging my pores, adding silicones in the mix is just asking for problems.
I went to Sephora yesterday to pick up a giftcard for my friend and the lovely SA dropped two samples of this BB Cream into my bag as well 😀 I’m glad to hear you love it and now I’m even more excited to try it out for myself!! Even though I’m Asian and I’ve heard of the BB Cream hype for years now, I’ve never actually tried any. I guess this will be my first 🙂
Yay! I’m happy to see you loving a BB Cream. I fell in love with Holika Holika Orange Label BB Cream (Essential). It comes in 2 shades, but I wear the lightest. I love that they are moisturizer, spf, concealer, foundation, and skinfood/anti-aging in one.
I’ve been seeing these BB Creams all over YouTube. I haven’t worn a liquid foundation in a million years. I just saw on QVC that Smashbox has them. I think they have more than two colors.
How is this one color for very very fair skintones?
Hi Ally,
Well since I’m not very, very fair (I am fair with yellow undertones) I’m not sure. It may be too dark on super pale skin, but it blends into mine undetectable.
Hi Kelly,
I am using the new Illamasqua SKin Base foundation and love it as much as you love your bb cream! Are you planning to test the Illamasqua, too? Would love to know what you think about it… 🙂
Hi Pishi,
I do have some samples of it I haven’t yet tried!
I tried 3 of the Asian brands over a year ago and the formulas made me too oily and I had some breakouts. I’m thinking about giving this one and Smashbox’s new BB cream a try. I love the idea of an all in one product 🙂
:O $39 for 1.4oz?!
i was about to complain that my version doesn’t come with a pump, instead it’s just a squeeze tube. i live in asia, where there are two different ‘colours’ of the dr. jart balms. black for oil control (but the actual bb cream is lighter in colour) and silver for moisturising!
i bought mine for about usd15, and it’s 50ml though :S
I just recently bought the MAC BB and LOVE it!! In the summer, it’s a smidge light for my skintone but not enough that my top powder can’t correct. It’s made a HUGE difference in the look of pores and fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead. Plus you can’t beat having more SPF on your face! I do end up wearing foundation over it (two actually) but find that I just need less of the foundation powders because the BB cream makes my skin look so nice before anything else gets added to the mix! 🙂
I can’t help thinking of the word Shart every time I see an article about Dr Jart. I’m five, I know. I wish that a BB cream could do something for me but it seems pointless if you have tinted moisturizer
