Her 39th birthday was upon her and she was feeling less than excited about it. Getting older really isn’t much fun, she thought to herself as she awoke to her husband saying “Happy birthday”. Then he spoke some intriguing words:
“Do you want to see the itinerary for today?”
“Itinerary? What do you mean, I thought we had brunch in SF at 11:15?”
He smiled, “No, I have a nice surprise planned for you.”
He sat down on the bed and pulled out some papers. She was very surprised when it said “Spa Nordstrom” on it.
“I booked you 2 hours at Spa Nordstrom in San Francisco. This is everything you are having done.” and with that she felt giddy.
The paperwork said “Spa Sampler” which was 2 hours that included a full body exfoliation, massage, vitamin concentrate face mask and collagen eye treatment.
“YAHOO!” (or something) she exclaimed.
He asked “Is that better than brunch?”
She replied “Definitely!”
Spa Nordstrom is in the Westfield Shopping Centre in downtown San Francisco, hidden away on the 5th floor. I cannot even tell you how long I have been going to this mall and was basically clueless that there was a spa there!
There are in fact just a few Spa Nordstrom’s in the US including:
Downtown Seattle, WA
Michigan Avenue in Chicago, IL
Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, IL
Somerset Collection in Troy, MI
South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA
Topanga in Canoga Park, CA
Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, AZ
San Francisco Centre in San Francisco, CA
Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ
Roosevelt Field in Garden City, NY
Galaria Dallas in Dallas, TX
NorthPark Center in Dallas TX,
Houston Galleria in Houston, TX
Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, GA
The spa in San Francisco is a full-service spa which offers a huge variety of services including various massages, anti-aging and hydrating facials, corrective treatments, teen treatments, body wraps, body baths and specialties, nail treatments, waxing and tanning and men’s therapies.
They also offer a variety of spa packages, and the one I tried was the Spa Sampler, which is 2 hours.
Spa Sampler: Full body exfoliation and a half-hour neck, shoulder, back and scalp massage. Regeneration facial and multi-vitamin active concentrate mask which cleanses, exfoliates and rejuvenates your complexion. Finally a smoothing and lifting collagen eye treatment.
This was my first ever spa treatment really. I have had massages and had a few of these other services at other places, but I had never had a facial and never had it all at one time, so I was excited!
The morning started off with changing into a soft robe and slippers and sitting in a nice, dark waiting area with soft chairs and couches. They put your feet in warm soapy water as you sit for about 10-15 minutes relaxing and drinking cucumber and lemon infused water or tea.
My first treatment was the body exfoliating. I was brought into a nice massage room and I laid down on the table. The woman who worked on me was very nice, friendly but not overly talkative, which I prefer when I am trying to relax.
She applied the exfoliating scrub on me and worked it all over my body, backside first, then front-side. The process was about 20 minutes or so.
Note: I left my underwear (not bra though) on because I didn’t realize that this exfoliating scrub would get ALL OVER me. So be aware of that if you ever do this type of treatment.
After that she left the room so I could wash the scrub off, in the shower which was inside the room. I actually hadn’t even noticed it because it was along-side the back wall and the light wasn’t on in it. When she turned it on I was kind of surprised it was there and was pretty large!
Next up was the massage which I was MORE than ready for! My problem areas are my shoulders and neck, which is where I carry all my tension. Actually the second she touched me she asked “Do you work on a computer a lot?” and I laughed. Um yes!
The massage was really nice, if a little painful. It was only painful because I let her work on me hard because I was really knotted up. She did tell me to let her know if anything hurt, but I wanted the kinks worked out.
After the 30-35 minute massage, she took me to into the hallway where I met the person who was to do my facial. We went into the room and before beginning she asked me my current skin-care routine and a few questions.
First off she cleansed my face, which didn’t really have anything on it anyway (I didn’t bother wearing makeup as I knew they would be taking it all off anyways).
After that she applied a vitamin mask and set a steamer in front of my face to open up my pores. The steam felt great at first but after a couple minutes I was feeling a little claustrophobic, like I couldn’t breathe through my nose. But it didn’t last more than a few minutes so it wound up being ok.
After that, she used a gentle face exfoliator on my skin for a few minutes.
Next up was the collagen eye and face mask. She covered my eyes with some cloth and applied the collagen eye gel around it. Then she covered my face with the gel, which felt nice and cool. Then she gave me a couple-minute hand and foot massage with some lotion, and put plastic over them then hot mitts, to help the lotion sink in and make my skin super soft.
The gel mask and mits stayed on for about 15 minutes. It felt great, but after about 10 minutes I was ready to get everything off. Again I was feeling a little “trapped” because my eyes were sealed shut and my hands and feet were covered and WHAT IF zombies all the sudden broke into the room? No really I was actually thinking about the apocalypse. I never said I was GOOD at relaxing!
Finally she came back and wiped off the gel and took off the mitts. My hands and feet did feel super soft.
The last step was she applied an eye cream and moisturizer with SPF to my face.
I wouldn’t say my face looked any younger or different really, but it most definitely felt really soft and nice.
The whole process was actually about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
I left there feeling less tense, more relaxed and softer.
It was a really great experience and I would definitely go there again!
