Top ‘o’ the afternoon to ya!
Today starts a new nail series called “vs.” where I will be pitting two possible dupes against each other discussing the differences.
Let’s start this off with a color called Confetti by drug store brand Jesse’s Girl.
I had heard from a couple people that this was extremely close if not a dupe for Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie. Now Scrangie is one of my favorite nail colors EVER and possibly my favorite purple, so when I heard this, I hunted her down at Rite Aid and captured her. 🙂
Confetti
Confetti is an iridescent lavender glitter that changes to blue depending on the angle. It’s suuuuuuper glittery, with a pretty sheer finish and a very subtle duochrome effect. Actually I say pretty sheer when I mean extremely sheer. This is three coats above, and not even close to being opaque. I think maybe five coats would make it opaque, but you know me, no way am I going to bother with that!
I think it might look really awesome over one coat of a purple or blue creme, but on it’s own it’s too sheer for me.

Scrangie (sorry older pic, not so great and can’t enlarge as much as I want)
Scrangie is also a purple iridescent, but very different from Confetti. This one isn’t what I would classify as a glitter polish like Confetti. The base is a deeper purple and the shimmer goes from purple to blue to pink with a heavy green duochrome effect.
Confetti doesn’t have any green in it, and to me that’s what makes Scrangie so amazing.
Also Scrangie’s formula is spot on because Rescue Beauty Lounge has great polish, so it applies like butter and covers completely in two coats.

Final verdict:
These are definitely not dupes and not really even very similar. Confetti is more of a lavender purple, and mostly consists of glitter with a very sheer finish. Scrangie is more of a royal purple, very opaque and with a heavy green duochrome effect. There is another huge difference between the two though, which is price. RBL polishes are $18.00 and Jesse’s Girl are about $2-3, so there IS that. However it’s not like one is a substitute for the other, so really price might not matter in this case.
Winner:
I pick Scrangie any day of the week over Confetti because I love the color and the formula. Confetti is gorgeous in the bottle, but I was disappointed with the sheerness.
What do you guys think about the idea of this series? Please let me know in the comments any ideas you have for nail dupe comparison posts. I prefer to only do 2, however if there are maybe 3 that are super close I’ll consider that. And obviously they have to be colors I actually own. 🙂

Scrange for the win for sure.
Exactly what I was thinking 😉

I cannot figure out how to comment on these sites. Can you pls direct me where to go? Thanks.
HI Joanne,
I’m not sure what you mean, comment on what sites?
Everybody loves a dupe comparison. Can’t think of any though….Sorry.
Love the dupe comparisons! Scrangie is such a fantastic colour, and a great person too! 🙂 There was a SH Insta Dri that was somewhat similar to Scrangie, and I can’t recall the name, because I don’t own it. However, RBL polish is amazing, so I am more than happy with my bottle.
Any comparisons you want to do would be great. I am sure you will do an olive green comparison at some point. 🙂
I think you’re referring to Grape Going – the Sally Hansen Insta Dri polish. Bought that before I got RBL Scrangie because I heard that it was similar, too, but it really isn’t. I mean, it’s a good affordable option, but Grape Going doesn’t really have the green shimmer or the color depth that Scrangie does. Also, I found that Grape Going went on terribly – thick yet runny with lots of bald spots and cuticle drag. 🙁
Thanks for the name! I have only bought about 3 Insta-Dri polishes and find them too thick, so I passed by Grape Going. Good thing!

Comps aside, the jesse’s girl color looks great layered over medium and dark colors. It’s really cool over green.

Love comparisons! I don’t have the money or the space to purchase every color I like, so it’s nice to know which ones are similar to others I already have. THANKS!!!
Thanks for doing this! I had been wondering about this myself. Hopefully one day I can own Scrangie 🙂
I agree with Jenni – who doesn’t love comparison posts!
Chanel Khaki Vert vs. American Apparel Army Jacket
Love this series!
I love the VS idea! My only suggestion would be to pick either really unique and “cult fav” polishes like Scrangie, or use some super current collections (such as a recent Zoya summertime polish) because usually, I want to see dupes right when they’re released and I’m considering buying them, or for really popular shades that I may not have gotten my hands on (or been able to afford, a la RBL & Chanel polishes). That’s my 2 cents! 🙂
I think Conffetti is much better layered over dark polish, then it gets *extremly* duochromy. 🙂
I love the series, I always welcome newly discovered dupes, since I hate buying them … I have an preposition – could you compare Endless Keys by Misa with Orange Marmalade by China Glaze?
There is another one, but it’s not actually a preposition, since I’m still searching for a dupe of it. It’s Depend 170, you don’t have Depend in the USA, but maybe I’m lucky and you got it in a swap. 🙂 Since you have an amazing collection of polish, can you think of a dupe if you have the 170? Otherwise I guess I’ll wait for a comparison with Blue India … it’s quite close to it, just less blue. 🙂 Great series, again, you have an amazing source for comparisons. 🙂

i think if you layered confetti over a warm toned medium purple it might look more like scrangie. i think with the correct color layered underneath, confetti could be made to look a lot more similar to scrangie.
I like this new series. Comparisons are always interesting. I’d like to see a mint green comparison between American Apparel and Nicole by OPI My Lifesaver or China Glaze Re-fresh Mint.
American Apparel Office… of course…
Alas, I was really hoping Confetti could pull this out because I’ve lusted after Scrangie for ages but the price tag gets me every time. Looks like I’ll have to hunt down the real thing. Also, I like this series so far and look forward to more.
I think this seems like a great series. 🙂
I love the whole idea of a Dupes series… having recently gotten back into polish after a ten year “MOM” phase I’ve been busting out more than a sane normal person would on polish so seeing more posts about dupes would be awesome from both mine and my bank accounts point of view *lol*.
Def. no dupes on those two, I like Scrangie more 🙂
I prefer Scrangie & I own it. Love it.

Love this series!
oooh! thank you so much for doing this comparison. i was JUST in rite aid two days ago and gasped when i saw that jesse’s girl color and immediately thought of scrangie. i ended up not buying it and going for some of the petites at the section over instead. glad i made the right choice.
how about Lippmann Between the sheets and Revlon Plum Seduction? To me they are identical and I’m wishing I chose a differnt Lippmann, lol
Plum Seduction is one of my all-time faves!
Hi. I love the comparison idea! Scrangie is definitely unique and lovely! I was wondering about these comparisons: Chanel Mimosa and RBL Yellow Fever, RBL Diddy Mow and Essie Sew Psyched.
Hmmm… I’d never heard of Confetti’s possible dupe-dom to Scrangie, cool comparison. I love a good dupe/no dupe post! I have both of these polishes and never even considered them as possible dupes. For the record, Confetti is actually a near-dupe to Sally Hansen’s HD polish in DVD, which I think may be ever-so-slightly more blue, but they’re very, very close. Evidently I like this type of color, since I keep buying it over and over, lol. I’ll be buying a backup of Scrangie when the Bring It Back colors at RBL go on pre-order. Definitely backup worthy!
Doesn’t look a thing like Scrangie. Scrangie is a beauty. The green does make a huge difference in this polish. I think this series sounds terrific. It would really be helpful. I’m tired of buying near dupes to polishes I already own.
Scrangie FTW! I like the dupe comparison post idea. It seems like you’ll have a lot of insight from your readers, but I also like 1) potentially learning about colors you weren’t aware of and 2) being able to be informed about polish at different price points and the pros and cons of each.
Great post!
I love the look of both of them so much! I haven’t tried either of them yet but want to! The confetti one looks like a glittery, metallic version of my favorite color periwinkle. I would paint my entire house that color if nail polish came in gallons! My living room is the same color as confetti – but just not as sparkly 🙁

Thumbs up from me for a series of ‘vs’ posts. A lot of people don’t have access to some brands and having comparisons make chances of owning a color like the one they wish for possible. Thank you for doing this! I appreciate it 🙂
Love everything about a VS series, for all the reasons already listed!
I had a real hard time understanding how some thought they were dupes. They look nothing alike. I think the comparison posts are a great idea! I was thinking about something, weren’t you doing a post every week of a random color that you love from your stash? I thought that was a great idea!
Hi Kristel,
Nope I never did that series 🙂 Actually I did a couple “from the vault” posts that were just general cosmetics I owned and liked, but haven’t done one for a bit.
They are different and are not dupes. Close? Not in my eyes.
I have both those polishes, and they’re not alike at all. And I do love Scrangie. 🙂
Confetti is a dead-on dupe for Sally Hansen HD DVD. I bought Confetti forgetting I already had DVD, and when I tested them at home they are IDENTICAL.
Love the colors! and also this month’s banner (especially since may is my birthday month!)
Aw I wish there was a dupe for Scrangie, but I guess you can’t match a top nail blogger’s dream polish! I wouldn’t mind seeing what confetti looks like layered and the ‘vs’ posts are a great idea!

Love the new series idea. Not sure if you have Chanel Riva, but I read somewhere the new Revlon Blue Lagoon is suppose to be a good dupe. Looking forward to see more “vs” posts.
I have both and they’re def not dupes. Riva is much lighter and has that blue shimmer in the bottle. Blue Lagoon is a darker blue (although still very light) without the blue shimmer. The shimmer particles in it are much larger than Riva
Thanks for letting me know. The formula on Blue Lagoon’s is terrible, although the color is very pretty. I didn’t realize Riva was even lighter and the shimmers were blue.
Awesome that you did this comparison – I was just looking for this Exact comparision less than a week ago. Unfortunately, guess I have to shell out for Scrangie when it comes back! My request – are there any comparisions for Rescue Beauty’s 360??
I love that you are comparing! It is amazing how different nail polish formulations are, and I love seeing a direct comparison. Good work!
I like the Scrangie shade. Scrangie is also a purple iridescent, and I love purple color. This shade is glittery, with a pretty sheer finish and a very subtle duo chrome effect. It’s really cool.
