Happy Saturday!
Saturday is THE best day of the week and here’s why:
- The previous week is in your rear-view mirror
- You don’t have to work the next day
- You get to sleep in for TWO days in a row
- You get to stay up late!
- You don’t have to work the next day. Oh whoops I think we covered that one 😉
But I digress.
We are here to discuss the new OCC nail lacquer collection for spring/summer 2011 called Lo-Fi.
Lo-Fi consists of six new color with various finishes.
I must admit, I find this collection to be a little “meh”. I feel like some of these colors we’ve seen a lot of and some just missed the mark for me personally.
The formula was a bit all over also. Some were thick and very opaque, while others were thin and sheer and yet another was…chunky? Hmm.
A.V.
A.V. is a whitish grey with very fine rainbow colored shimmer. I like the color of this one and feel it’s fairly unique. The formula was very thick and opaque, you almost only need one coat, but I did use two. Nice!
Beta
Beta is a neon semi-matte orange. Traffic-stopping orange! But what do I see all over the nail? Chunks! I thought this was totally weird and was maybe just a bad bottle, but then I saw some swatches online and asked on Twitter, and it seems others had this issue also. It almost looks as though it just bubbled like crazy, but no the “texture” is in the bottle. Weird. Anyway not a completely unique color, and the formula is weird so I didn’t love it. It did cover in two coats completely though and was fairly thick.
Flawed
Flawed is a warm bronze with heavy gold shimmer. This was super thin and watery and also fairly sheer. I don’t love the color on me and would have preferred more saturation. This was three coats.
RX
RX is a sheer bright blue. Ok this one is supposed to be sheer, so at least you know that going in, but I still don’t love it. Not a fan of sheer, it just makes me want to add 1,000 layers until I can’t see my nail tips! This was three coats.
Echo
Echo is a dark blue/green teal creme. Now this is a lovely color, not all that common and I adore it. The formula was really nice and covered completely in two coats.
Tattoo
Tattoo is a deep blackened green creme. I really like this color also, even though I might have a couple similar. It’s really dark., yet doesn’t look totally black and it’s super shiny. This was also a really good formula, covering in two coats.
Overall:
Some good ones and some misses I think. It’s kind of a mixed bag of colors don’t you think? I don’t really get a feeling of “cohesion” here for some reason. I do like A.V., Echo and Tattoo, but would skip the others because of formula or sheerness issues.
Availability: OCC’s website
Pricing: $8.00 each
What do we think about this collection?

Ehhh… not impressed. It’s like they threw together a bunch of random colors and called it a collection.
Amber Parker´s last post…Show me your blog!
Agreed. Not something I want to buy.
kinda ho-hum but the teal is a keeper, that neon orange was soap in the mix? great HONEST post. you’re right last week is a done dollar- this is my first week at the next flat -winning
love love LOVE tattoo and echo. too bad about the texture and bubble issue with beta. that’s a total bummer. I’m gonna agree on the meh-ness of this collection.

The teal is pretty, but the others are meh. I’ve tried some of their polishes in the past and found myself just generally underwhelmed by them so I’ll probably give these a pass.
Also – total woohoo for it being Saturday. I don’t know about you but these last two weeks have been insane where we are (but we had a kick ass March so it helps make up for it) and totally ready for the down time!
Life is too short to wear “meh” nail polish! That neon orange is so pretty… it’s a shame about the quality issues.
(Here’s to the comment gnomes *not* eating my comment again!)
AV and Tattoo are the most intriguing to me, and Flawed would have been a contender if it wasn’t so sheer. I also want to like Beta, but the lumpiness if very off-putting. I’d definitely say that AV was the most unique of the offerings this time around.
Happy Saturday to you! It is sunny here and I hope it is there, too!
A.V. and Echo are both great but the rest are just eh.
I LOVE the first colour, wish I could get my hands on it!

I ♥ your new masthead! I like the last two colors, but overall, nothing really impressing.

A.V. and Echo are my faves. Echo is so so pretty, you don’t really see that shade of teal very much.
The lacquers are okay, but you know what’s really killing me, Kelly? Your April header! 😀 Yum…
Just wanted to pop in and say “I LOVE the new banner picture!”
Echo is the exact teal I’ve been looking for!! Yay! Thanks for posting!
The others are a pass, but Echo is gorgeous!
Hehe, I think Beta should been called Flawed instead, given the crappy formula! 😛
the only one i was is echo i love teals
but AV is very nice too but not something i would purchase
Love A.V. and Echo, but I’m not feeling the others at all.

HI Kelly: I love this collection, especially, AV, RX, (what a nice sheer blue,) Echo, (my favorites are the Teal Green colors, LOL) and Echo, love that solid black shade. The price is nice at $8.00 each but where do `you find `them at? Even if the colors are like some of the others they look smashing on your pretty nails. That’s a big plus!
Love,
Mc Huggs 🙂
Hi Mc Huggs,
On their website, don’t think they sell in actual stores.
av is INCREDIBLE, i realllllly want that one! so pretty, love the shimmer
I like A.V. and Echo well enough, not sure if I’ll go out of my way to add them to my collection though. I agree that this collection seems kind of random. I <3 that you're always honest with you reviews 😉
Hey Kelly!
I’ve been loving your blog for a while now, but this is my first comment 🙂 So, hello! I have to say, that chunky nail polish is SO weird! I’ve never had that problem. I wonder if other users have that problem, maybe OCC did it…..on purpose? Why though?!? That just seems like too strange of an issue to not be noticed by their quality assurance team?
AV and Echo are the standouts for me. Overall though it’s not spectacular is it. I think I’d like the orange too if it weren’t for the chunks, that’s so odd I wonder if that was intentional and if so why.
I love the first two and the last two!

I -must- have echo!
Very pretty! Do you know how Echo compares to CND Urban Oasis?
Love the last two. That orange is horrible! Chunky polish, yuk!
Well… I’m definitely *not* a fan of the Beta, but I do love the same ones that you do. For the record, I think the bronzey one looks great on you. I may actually spend $24 on A.V., Echo, and Tattoo since I love them that much.
