NYX Cosmetics has a new line of products out called “Grow Lash” that are all aimed at making your lashes and brows grow longer and/or thicker. Much like the prescription lash enhancer Latisse, but these are over the counter rather than prescription.
I am a gigantic skeptic when it comes to lash enhancements just because I cannot understand *how* they work. Especially if they aren’t technically classified as a prescription medication and FDA approved such as Latisse is.
These are the first lash growth products I have tried, though quite a few companies have their versions of them out now. I have seen some pretty amazing looking before and after photos from YouTube gurus I follow (not of these particular products though) so I decided to try it for myself.
The products NYX has are
- Grow Lash Serum
- Long & Full Mascara with Grow Lash Serum
- Grow Lash Liquid Liner
- Grow Brow Serum
Here are the details of how this works and what it is straight from the horses mouth:
• Prescription free eyelash serum that transforms thin, brittle lashes to create a gorgeous, lush, dense look
• All natural formulation features superior peptide and growth complexes combined with arginine, biotin, soy proteins, herb extracts and ginko biloba to produce longer, thicker, stronger lashes
• Results are evident in as little as 4 – 6 weeks and continue to build with continued use
• Independent studies show 100% of users saw improvement in eyelash density and length; while 85% reported increased fullness of the lash
• Non-irritating formula is clinically tested, Dermatologist tested and approved
• Oil-Free, Drug-Free, Paraben-Free and never tested on animals
• Usage: Apply nightly to clean, dry lashes by sweeping applicator brush along the lash line from inner to outer corner of the eye
NYX Pro-Grow
NYX Pro-Grow products are advanced, non-irritating natural formulations that promote the growth and healthy appearance of the eyelashes and eyebrows creating a fuller, thicker more beautiful look.
NYX Pro-Grow products can be used alone or in combination; with daily use results are noticeable after just a few weeks!
AM
• Use Grow Lash Liquid Liner to line and define eyes
• Apply Grow Lash Mascara to lashes to create a fuller, more dramatic look
PM
• Apply Grow Lash Serum to a clean lash line, working from inner to outer corner of the eye
• Brush Grow Brow Serum across the arch of a clean brow line, working from inner to outer corner of the brow
I found the serum easy enough to apply and didn’t have any problems with it other than remembering to use it every AM & PM, which I did manage for 6 straight weeks.
I had taken a before photo right when I started and planned on taking one at 2 weeks and then every 2 weeks after up until 6 weeks. But I didn’t need to. Why? Because I saw no difference at all in my lashes.
I was hoping like crazy SOMETHING would happen but there was no noticeable difference in the length or density of my lashes between when I started all the way up to 6 weeks when I abandoned the experiment. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed and my skepticism felt all the more justified.
That’s not to say though that these won’t work for YOU. I assume everyone has different responses to different products, so just because it did nothing for me doesn’t mean it won’t for you. They do claim that 100% of people in an independent study did see lash density and length improvement, but again I find that hard to believe that every single person had a result, but it did nothing for me. I wonder how many people made up that 100%?
I also tried the Long & Full Lash Mascara with Grow Lash Serum in it for the first week.
The mascara experiment only lasted a short time though because I had some issues with it.
It wound up being very flakey on me and I had little pieces falling onto my face just a few hours into wearing it, so I gave up after a week.
Overall:
For me these products did not work as they claimed they would, but again I have to reiterate that doesn’t mean they won’t work for you. The pricing on these is a lot better than many of the other ones I have seen online which can run from $100 per tube and up, so at least if you try it and it doesn’t work out, you haven’t lost out on a ton of money.
Availability: Where ever NYX is sold
Pricing: $25.00 for the Grow Lash Serum and $13.00 for the mascara
Have you tried any lash enhancement serums? Did they work for you?

I’m always skeptical of these, because they make crazy claims. Some say they’ll make your lashes look over 100% longer; that’s doubling them in length! Who would want their lashes tickling their forehead?!
But what I DO find interesting is the brow serums. I think I remember Leesha (xsparkage from YouTube) saying she used one of the lash serums on her brows, and it really helped! I overpluck sometimes, so a working brow serum would be great.
Not surprised – don’t think any of them really work.

skeptical i am that too when it comes to these kind of products, it same happen with age
related cremes etc. I don’t really think they will work, even those lipstics that claim that will last for hours don’t work either
I am skeptical of these types of products, as well. I wear contacts and have somewhat sensitive eyes, anyway, and some of the side-effects (like the ones listed for Latisse, particuarly the possbility of eyelid or iris pigmentation changes) concern me. I already have bad vision…I’d rather not muck up my eyes further for vanity! It’s interesting to learn about the results (or lack thereof) from your own experimentation.
ive been using the loreal lash boosting serum for quite a while now and at first i didnt see anything drastic but then i progressively started seeing new baby lashes growing in, and the lashes i do have seem to be a little bit longer. instead i believe they seem fuller now that ive been using the loreal thing because i get much less fallout when washing my mascara off or rubbing my eyes. i use the serum at night and the mascara that goes along with it in the morning. i stopped using it for awhile because i finished the little tube and didnt really feel like spending 13 bucks for another one and i noticed my lashes started falling out again more and i dont know they just didnt seem as nice so i recently repurchased the product and already am seeing a difference. soo maybe you should try that? lol
Hi evelyn,
I don’t support L’Oreal or it’s brands (see my FAQ) but glad it worked for you!
Do you know you have L’Oreal ads on your site?
Hi Ash,
Yeah I know I am working on getting them removed and same with some others but it’s not so easy!
I’ve seen pictures from bloggers who claim to have seen results from products like these and to be honest I couldn’t even ell the difference between the before and after. To me, it isn’t worth it having to add another step to my routine for results other people probably won’t even be able to see. Thank you so much for the review and your honest opinions! Maybe too many people are just seeing what they want to see?
a cheaper solution would be natural castor oil. there are claims that it promotes eyelash growth.
I wonder what dermatologist approved this stuff cause I bought the wet n wild serum/mascara duo and it totally made my eyelids itch, swell, burn, and my eyes water and burn as well. I had to keep a cool washcloth on my eyes for about an hour to get rid of the burn. 🙁 I abandoned it after one use. The Mascara I liked… the serum not to much…
I’ll stick with my normal lashes and if i really want some umph I’ll get some falsies.
I hate to be a downer over here, but I’m not exactly surprised. I have never heard any real positive reviews from my friends and colleagues that have tested products like this. Too bad this is just like the rest. 🙁

I had a client when I worked in cosmetics last year who came in to get her makeup done. I couldn’t believe how thick her eyelashes were. Like, UNBELIEVABLE. She even had to trim them with little scissors. She had been using a product called “Lilash” (which from the website I see sells brow stuff too). I really want to try that one after seeing her results. The thing is, it costs $150-ish for a tube. Not sure I want lashes *that* bad. I believe they are sold in spas and salons.

She had to trim them with scissors? Haha, that’s ridiculous!
I wouldn’t want eyelashes that long, especially because I wear glasses. (Super-long eyelashes remind me of spiders! *shivers*)
I’m using the eyebrow growth formula by NYX. I’ve been using it for about 2 months now, in the evening only and have noticed a slight increase in growth.
I had just ordered that, thinking the brush would look like it did on the box… but your picture shows that it doesn’t. wahh!
I ordered the Brow Grow serum when the NYX stuff was on sale on HauteLook. I was hoping it would help my thin brows grow in but it made me itch like crazy! I only used it for a few nights before I gave up.
I’m looking for some new mascara because old one ends, it will enough for 2 days max, but i look for something which will lenghten my eyelashes and there will not be any lumps.
Thanks for the review! I’m hesitant (and a skeptical) on trying these types of products, sensitive eyes, no real gripes about my lashes, too lazy to stick with the routine needed for supposed results, etc. I recently purchased the NYX brow pencil/highlighter combo – ‘pushup bra for your eyebrow’ – and I’m totally digging it. There were a few other eyebrow related products in the same display (at Harmon) but I don’t recall specifics but did plan to go back to check them out when the beauty-budget is replenished. I do wonder how these compare to the higher-end brands – this is my first brow-specific product!
I’m trialling the Dulash serum at the moment and have seen huge results. Not in length but def in growth. Hoping to get a post up this week about it.
I can go on and on from a scientific standpoint about the BS behind all these claims, but no one would read the ridiculously long dissertation I would write, LOL. So all I will say is that in the world of cosmetics marketing “independent study” and “clinically proven” and any other scientific-sounding crap is completely meaningless. That just doesn’t go for these particular products, it goes for ANY cosmetic/beauty product. I’m a clinical biochemist and also a beauty junkie/part-time makeup artist. I cringe just paging through any given beauty magazine reading the ads with the absurd claims that the poor cosmetic chemist who formulated the product knows damn well are complete BS. Unfortunately, they create the products, then they get in the hands of the marketing people who invent all the ridiculous trumped-up claims that are meant to fool women into believing their product is so very different than the last. It’s actually insulting to women and it angers me. NO topical product that is sold over-the-counter will grow, thicken, or multiply your lashes. Latisse is it, and that is a prescription, FDA approved product that has had to go through years and years of trials and tests to make it to the market. Nothing for $15 at CVS can replicate that. Please don’t be fooled. Any women that see a “noticeable improvement” are experiencing placebo effect. If I explained how some of these “clinical trials” are performed in the cosmetics industry, women would be outraged at how they have been deceived for years. It’s actually very very sad, and hugely insulting.
I do love your blog, by the way. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into it. I read it everyday!
I never believe these type of products would work. If they did you’d need a prescription for all they claim these do.
