I may have found my holy grail face primer in Hard Candy’s Sheer Envy Primer!
This is the first sheer face primer I have tried and MAN am I ever impressed with it. It’s pretty much perfection in a tube for me.
I found this amongst the horror that is the Walmart beauty section. Half the Hard Candy items are opened or leaking out. Half seem to be always out of stock. But this was sitting there all perfect looking beckoning me, so I gave her a go.
This primer comes in a colorless formula as well as 5 different colored versions. Since I was just looking for something to even out my skin and prep my skin for foundation, I went with the colorless version.
The colored versions seem to be also billed as moisturizers, whereas this one wasn’t. I can’t comment on any differences between them though since I didn’t purchase any of them.
This does contain silicone, which for me is not a problem, but others might not like that. One odd thing I noticed is the back of the box says to “apply one pump” implying it’s a pump-like applicator, but in fact it’s a squeeze tube.
The primer comes out of the tube white, but it blends in completely invisible.
The texture is totally, utterly amazing. It’s soft, velvety and just melts into the skin. It’s not greasy or heavy feeling at all. It’s really easy to blend it also, so you don’t need much for the whole face. I do use it over an SPF moisturizer, since this isn’t technically a moisturizer, and contains no SPF.
The finish leaves your skin velvety looking but not totally matte. It does an amazing job of helping to hide pores and those pesky fine lines (rapidly turning into NOT so fine lines) and makes the skin feel really smooth and ready for foundation. I have some deep-ish forehead wrinkles and frequently my foundation settles into those lines rather quickly. I have not had it happen once when I use this with it.
So far I have used this under my two favorite foundations (Dior Capture Totale and Chanel Pro Lumiere) and it works great with both. It helps the foundation spread out evenly and it glides across my skin so easily. The final finish is WAY better than using just an SPF moisturizer, which I have done forever!
Another huge bonus I noticed is that it keeps my face from getting shiny, I very rarely have to touch up mid-day.
I am smitten. 🙂
I am struggling to find something bad about this but to be 100% honest, I can’t. Ok maybe the fact that it’s only sold at Walmart is a negative. But really for me this product is totally amazing and I have used it nearly every day for the last 2 weeks and love it. This is the first product I have given an A+ to, and I MEAN IT. 🙂
What makeup primer do you use, if any?
