e.l.f. Cosmetics is a company that I have just only recently been interested in trying. Maybe because they weren’t really around at stores I shopped at or maybe it was because I just considered them to be cheap and crappy bad quality.
However while at Target recently I saw this lovely looking Day To Night Eye Kit and the colors jumped out at me. And then I saw the price and they jumped out even more. Five bucks for 6 shadows, 1 liquid liner, 1 pencil liner and a mascara, can’t beat that with a stick!
This is a limited edition holiday set, which was found (at my Target) on an end-cap with all the rest of the holiday makeup.
Let’s dig into the eyeshadows first!
The Day set features three beautiful, super shimmery colors.
The first is a medium purple with pink and gold glitter. The second is a bright lavender/pink with a slight blue duochrome and pink glitter. The third is a warm pale gold with gold and silver glitter.
Sadly they didn’t live up to my high hopes. They all felt on the gritty side, and they were all quite patchy. The gold one was so patchy and pale really all you see is specks of glitter with not much base color. I *really* wish these shadows were better because the colors (first two anyway) have such potential.
The Night set features two darker shades and a pale highlight.
The first is a jet black with pink and green glitter. The second is a jade green with gold and green glitter. The third is a bright snow white with white glitter.
Now we’re talkin’! This set was so much better than the Day one, and I had actually expected this one to be worse and that one better.
The black was really nice and dark and totally soft and smooth. I love the green glitter in it. The green is amazing, it’s super pigmented and soft, and a gorgeous color. The white also was very pigmented and soft, with no chalkiness to be seen.
This set also comes with all the other eye makeup one might want: a black pencil eyeliner, a jet black liquid eyeliner and a black mascara.
I found the pencil eyeliner to be a bit hard and it was on the waxy side. In other words, it definitely felt inexpensive to me.
The liquid liner was nice, it was super black and smooth. The only thing I didn’t like about it is the tip is really hard with no give at all so it can make application more difficult. I prefer tips that are soft and bend as I drag it along my lash line.
The mascara was nice in color, very black, but the tip of the wand was on the small side.
Even though the Day shadows were a fail and I probably wouldn’t ever use the liners or mascara, it was still a hit for me because of the Night set. Five bucks for those three shadows is totally worth it!
