UPDATE: Because I have lost my mind (and need more sleep) the earlier version of this post was 50% incorrect on the name of this polish. I kept calling it “Azure Chocolate” in my mind then somehow that translated onto the post, sorry about the confusion! This color is called Aztec Chocolate. Post has been fixed. π
And the Dior Vernis addiction continues with Aztec Chocolate, which is part of their fall 2010 collection.
Aztec Chocolate is an amazing dark chocolate with gold shimmer.
For some reason the thought didn’t cross my mind to show this tapered brush they have until a reader mentioned it. Duh, sorry about that!
Anyway so here is the new wide tapered brush. It’s definitely not the best shape and can be harder to work with than regular brushes. Basically I just go slower than usual and it’s not really that much of a problem. Some folks might totally hate it though and I can see why. π
Aztec Chocolate
So as you can see the color is just this beautiful shimmery brown. I know a lot of people say they don’t like brown polish, but I don’t think they are thinking of this color brown when they say that. It’s really flattering and applied pretty nicely. I did need three coats to get it completely opaque.
And just so you can see them side by side since they are both from the fall 2010 collection, here is Bronze Libertine next to it.
Overall:
It’s love at first swatch and I can thank Helen at Just Nice Things for turning me onto it!
Grade: A
Ok I want to know what do you think of this one? How do you like it compared to Bronze Libertine?

*sigh* I love them both, I just refuse to spend that much on polish. I would feel so guilty! It’s like with my RBL polishes I have quite a few but I can’t justify buying them unless they have a 50% off sale.
Does it not hurt to cut your nails so low Kelly? I almost expect to see some blood lol.
Hi Tamika,
Nope doesn’t hurt me at all. They have been much shorter actually π
Wow…I like both of them, but they are really too expencive for me…maybe ther will be some cheaper version, some dupe perhaps π

Your nails are just perfect now. π These colors are so elegant and rich. I prefer Bronze, looks more sophisticated.
I definitely like the Aztec Chocolate better than the Bronze Libertine… while they are both pretty colors, the Aztec Chocolate seems more unique to me. The Czarina Gold is still my favorite new Dior polish (might have to get it, even though it’s a bit out of my price range at the moment). π Will you be reviewing Purple Revolution by any chance?
Hi Christina,
No I didn’t get that one because it looked like a plain purple creme. I don’t want to fork over that much cash unless it really speaks to me. π
I hear ya. π
Purple Revolution is probably the darkest purple I’ve ever put on. It’s the purple version of Poison Blue — uber saturated, but it never pulls completely black. It reminds me of the colors in Ad Reinhardt’s Black Painting. Very unique, and not a drop of shimmer in it. I think I might do a Ruffian manicure with the Poison and Revolution. I’m in a Reinhardt mood this year.
I think both of them are really pretty colors, but I prefer Bronze Libertine π

Azure Chocolate definitely is one of the prettier browns out there! π But ugh, I really dislike using those kind of tapered brushes.

Another cool-toned brown. I loved the browns you did in your recent top 10. These Dior browns are too icy for me. I’m too busy chasing your top 10!
I really like both the Bronze & the Chocolate. I think the Chocolate would flatter my cool skintone better, but I’d have to swatch them in person. I don’t think I’ll be purchasing these, but will just covet them!
I broke down and purchased this color. My local counters didn’t have it but Sephora still carries it. It’s too pretty not to have.
I like this color even better than the bronze one! I have a lot of trouble with brushes like that though. It looks like the same brush rimmel has on their square bottles.
Well you have really turned me into this type of “browns.” I’m loving this one as much as the Bronze Libertine. May I ask, did you also get this at NM? Thanks and have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Sandy,
Oh good, I like converting people, haha. I got this at Sephora.com, NM only had Bronze Libertine (as of last week anyway).
It’s such a pretty brown! But to call it just brown, is really inaccurate. It’s too pretty!

Is it Aztec or Azure? Aztec chocolate makes me think of yummy cinnamon-y mexican hot cocoa. Azure chocolate is actually the name of a specialty chocolate shop, but that name never made any sense to me… blue chocolate?
Hi Jamie,
OMG I am losing my mind!!!! Ever since I heard of it I kept accidentally calling it Azure Chocolate and then when you said that I realized half my post says it Azure (incorrect) and half said Aztec!!! I just corrected it, sorry for the confusion. I think I need a nap, lol.
This is really cool! like that! But it’s too expensive for me… It’s “just” a polish.. π and I’m just a student π
Gorgeous colour! I could see a polish called Azure Chocolate, though…a deep chocolate brown with a turquoisy-blue shimmer overlay. Kind of like all the brown and turquoise that has been in for decor. Perhaps I should market this idea, lol!
Oooh…I’d buy that!
Hi Melli,
That sounds like an incredible polish color! In fact blue/chocolate brown is my fav color combo (it’s all over my house and were my wedding colors). I love that!
oh wow, i want your polish idea on my nails like now!
Okay, when I am back from my twitter/blog break, I will try to do a layering combo to simulate the effect. Glad I am not the only one who thinks this would be awesome! π
That sounds fabulous! I would totally buy it!
Pretty color but AWEFUL brush, especially for that price. This is the same horrible brush that is in the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure formula polish. These brushes feel flimsy and do not apply polish well.
I love this brown! I plan on getting this. I dont like the brush either but I just use a brush from a clear coat and clean it off to make it easier. The Sally Hansen Complete Manicure colors have weird brushes too. I just did my nails with Essie Over the Knee -a nice hot chocolate color, with a little sparkle- I love browns too!!
I like the Aztec Chocolate shade the best, the other is pretty too though. I think it’s going on my Christmas wish list! π
I just bought aztec chocolate and gold revolution from sephora! Can’t wait to get them and wear them!
Love this color! Wish I had waited for your swatches of this because I would’ve skipped Czarina Gold and bought this one instead. While both colors are gorgeous Aztec Chocolate is more me.
[Sorry, but I hit the wrong button on my comment and loaded it too soon; please use this completed version of the post.]
Gold Revolution from Sephora is the same polish as Timeless Gold. Timeless Gold is very close to a dupe for Chanel Kaleidoscope, but Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Metallic Momentum is also extremely close to Kaleidoscope and Timeless Gold. Btw, talking of dupes, Dior’s Lemon Balm is so close to Aztec Chocolate, that if you have the older polish you can probably skip the newer one. Of course, Aztec Chocolate makes a good backup for the Lemon Balm which is now unavailable.
amazing color although the price really repels me… I’ll stick to OPI.

Very pretty shade of brown. I love chocolate shades and browns of all colors.
