Revlon is one of those brands that is very sparse in my nail polish collection. Their colors rarely appeal to me, but I saw some new ones the other day and snagged them.
The collection is called Just Add Sparkle and it’s a few new creme colors with sparkly top coats to pair with them.
The ones I got are called Rock and Star, check them out!
Rock
Rock is a medium grape purple creme. On it’s own it’s a really nice color, and I would totally wear it as is. The formula was really nice, no problems at all. This was opaque in three coats.
Star over Rock
Star is a glittery purple top coat packed with hexagon and regular shaped holographic micro-glitter. I think this is fun and adds a very cool look to a basic creme color. Obviously you could put this on top of pretty much any polish color and it would look good.
As far as formula, Star was thick, but not unworkable. I just made sure to wait 2 minutes between each coat (two coats of Star). The hardest part with these glittery polishes with large glitter is that the larger glitter tends to move around if it’s not partially dry already when you apply another coat, so sometimes you can push it to the tip. Patience is a virtue with these!
Overall:
I am really happy Revlon is trying to break out of the boring colors and textures. Hopefully more fun things are in store. Oh and I wouldn’t cry if they completely changed their bottle shape either… 😀
What do you think about this combo?

Wow these are really nice! I’ll have to see if they’re available here in the UK, and also I need to look up on how to remove glittery/sparkly nail polishes!
Hi Fiona,
I have a video on that on YouTube. My channel is VampyVarnish7 🙂
I actually quite like these. I typically don’t go for Revlon polishes either (the only one I have is Minted), but these may make me change my tune.

Hi Zara,
Yeah same here. I have Minted and one other dark midnight blue and that’s it!
I am keeping an eye out for these…the sparkle topcoats look so cool. I agree about the bottle shape…I’d love it if they redid them 😛

Hi Amanda,
I know they are just sooooooo 80’s and not in a good way 🙂
These are surprising. Rock kind of reminds me of Orly Charged Up; I wonder how they compare. I may have to check Star out just b/c of my love of glitter. 🙂 I’m also pretty pleased w/ some of the new colors Revlon has been coming out w/. I only own two-Minted and an old bottle of this gorgeous red jelly/chunkier red glitter combo called Firecracker.

Hi Stephanie,
Off the top of my head I want to say Charged Up is more grape and darker.
What other colors do they have, any blues?
Hi Cassandra,
I’m not sure about all the colors because the display was pretty empty when I saw it. I did see a red/red glitter one though.
Another really great purple shade! I like the glittery top coat too. I agree, the bottle shape and design needs to go, it’s 80’s and tacky. I don’t own any Revlon, I think I subconsciously loathe their bottle and won’t buy it, because there are definitely colors that I have wanted to purchase.
Hi Sonya,
That’s what always kept me away. I mean if something doesn’t draw you in form the beginning, it’s hard to look past the first impression at the actual color. I only own three Revlon’s myself.
I know! I try not to judge a book by it’s cover, but it is just so difficult when it is supposed to be something pretty!
Hi Sonya,
Totally. And I also don’t like their logo and the gold, it screams 1983 “Dynasty” to me. Not that that Dynasty was bad, I loved that show actually hahaha.
Beautifull shade and glitter!
Kiss
Hi Helena,
Thx!
I like these alot! I’ve been stalking CVS and Walgreens for about three weeks now. Hopefully, they’ll show up in the South ;)!
Hi Sandy,
I hope so too. I think they are pretty new so they will be out a little while at least.
I have all the Just Add Sparkle topcoats. I haven’t tried them yet but they remind me of some of the Deborah Lippmann glitters. I actually own quite a few Revlons now, though I’m not a huge fan of the application.
Hi Virginia,
Yeah they are a little like the Lippmann’s just not as opaque with the colors.
I have lots of Revlon polishes and I don’t hate the bottle shape! I think it’s simply classic. Milani has a way more dated bottle to me. And don’t get me started on the worst bottle ever – Nicole. However, other than that I love this combo! The one I am on the hunt for is the black glitter. I found the red, purple and grey. The black was gone! 🙁
Hi Echo7,
I agree about Milani. Bottle and logo very dated looking. And Nicole bottles drive me nuts the way they don’t fit in nicely with other ones in my bins! 🙂
Revlon is my favorite drugstore brand, and I have a long love affair with them.
However, they still need some help in the “innovation” department.
Thanks for this review, I’m happy to see they are trying to branch out 🙂
Very cool! I think I actually prefer the effect of this to the Lippmann chunky glitters you showed us last week. I like the sheer base glitter over an opaque creme. I think the Revlon bottle is unattractive, but it wouldn’t keep me from buying the polish. Honestly, the OPI bottles are seeming pretty dated to me at this point. I’m sensing a VV poll…best nail polish bottle shape?!
Hi SB_Sweetie,
Good poll idea, thanks! 🙂
Great color… I like the pop that Star gives it as well.

i was so disappointed with revlon after my bottle of minted started producing strange hair-like strands during application. do you know of any way to solve this problem?
I like the availability, price, rating box. Nice addition!
I second this! 🙂
Cuteee!!! Reminds me of the new Deborah Lipmanns!!! I always like revlon polishes more once they are on. The application is pretty good but they do need better colors and update their bottles to build a younger fanbase.
I like it better without the glitter. The bottle is a good shape for stability, less likely for me to knock it over! But I think they could do with revamping the gold lettering, it always comes off and I agree it looks very dated.
That Revlon “Rock” may have to join my arsenal. I too am disappointed with how they tend to get thready and separate. But I use a drop of Orly “”thinner” and roll the bottle around in my hand for a few minutes and the problem is solved.
The opacity in the Revlon colors can’t be beat, that is one thing I like.
I bought the whole collection. I used Revlon when I was a teenager. I’ve been buying some lately. I love the look of the glitter. The cremes are also pretty.
