Hey everyone!
Been awhile since I have been able to post any polish so today I’ve got some fun new colors from American Apparel for summer 2010.
The formula on these is really, really great. They have their stuff down! All of these were only two coats for full opacity and one could have been just one coat. The lighter colors look like they will be a hot streaky mess, but they are actually very even. I was super impressed!
Read on for swatches!
Summer Peach is a light peachy/nude. This was the first of these collection that I swatched and I truly thought it was going to be horrible, but I was so wrong. Even with just one coat, it was very opaque and smooth. It’s not my favorite color on me personally, but could see the appeal on those with a different skin tone.
Butter is a light, cool lemon yellow. I love this kind of yellow, with not much gold in it, and amazingly, there was barely a streak at all! This is probably the least streakiest yellow I have ever used.
L’Esprit is a light lavender pastel. This is a really pretty color and suits my skin nicely, though I do feel I have a lot of other colors like this.
Malibu Green is a bright, teal green. This is a gorgeous color and the best of the bunch. This was so opaque I could have used just one coat, but I did two here.
Overall I think these colors are pretty great and the formula is outstanding. There are also a few other colors in this collection that I don’t have.
You can find these on American Apparel’s website now.
Whaddya think?

I love this brand and Malibu Green is to die for!
Thanks for the swatches 😉
Hi Flavia,
Yes it is, but it stains like crazy :/
I bought L’Esprit and Malibu Green last week, but now you’ve made me want the rest of them too. 🙂

Hi Nailtastic,
Hee hee 🙂
I got Malibu Green and L’Esprit a few weeks ago plus California Trooper (I think was the name). I love them all and they kind of worked well together. They definitely do fun colors at AA.
Hi erin,
I love the name California Trooper 🙂
nice green- thanks for the head up on the staining i have a ? have you tried bubble white for stains-seems pricey but if it works its for me- i also read that dishsoap and peroxide do the trick
HI aaminahs mom,
I haven’t tried that. I very rarely get stains and they usually only last for a few hand washings.
Malibu Green and Butter are so pretty. I must find them! Thanks for the awesome swatches.
Hi Tammy,
Welcome!
Thanks for the swatches. That green is beautiful!

Hi Tasha,
You like? 🙂
I think it’s amazing that they have succeeded in manufacturing pastels with such opacity. I really like them and the formula is clearly hugely impressive.
Hi Jen,
Yeah and they look like they would be really sticky also, but they aren’t.
Nice to hear that the formula is so good! I’ve been debating whether to try some of these, and it looks like an AA order is in my future. 🙂

Hi Solveig,
Cool!
American Apparel has really terrible business practices and I don’t want to support them, so I’ll just have to franken my own version of these!
Hi Jessmokun,
Hope it works out for ya!
I love AA polishes and the pastels are just lovely 🙂
Hi rmcandlelight,
They are fab, aren’t they? 🙂
Love these on you! I can relate to AA polishes staining. I rarely have this problem, but “Peacock” stained so badly that I have only used it once. It must be hard to get such great opacity without staining. “Malibu Green” is my favorite here. Thanks for swatching, and I hope things have settled down…
Hi SB_sweetie,
Thanks! Things have settled down and everything is pretty much back to normal. Except 50% of my house 🙂
Nice swatches! I have Summer Peach and I really like it. I am fair with cool toned hands…and it ends up looking nice on me.
Hi Sky,
Thank you!
They look pretty, but none of them stand out as must haves for me. Did you experience staining with Malibu Green? The Nailphile swatched some of these and she had green fingers for a couple days!
Hi Serena,
Yes it definitely stained but disappeared after a few hand washings. I only had it on a few minutes though!
I’m wearing Malibu Green now and I love it. I put Pure Ice Heartbreaker over it to give it a little something extra, but it doesn’t really need it. I still have to try out Peacock, but I am very impressed with this color and formula.
Hi Carrie,
Nice, glad you are liking it!
Ooh I love the L’Esprit one since it’s lavender/periwinkle – my favorite color! And the Malibu Green one is nice too. I love the 80s logo on the polish!

Lovin’ the Malibu Green!
I really like Butter of the four colors. Good to know that it wasn’t hard to apply as most yellows are.

Hi marisol,
I was really expecting a streaky mess of epic proportions with Butter and was very pleased!
I have Butter and Malibu Green in my untried pile…looking forward to them. I am excited about a non-streaky yellow!
I am SO loving those.
I want the butter one the most but I would take all of them. 🙂
I’m not sure who has or hasn’t entered BUT I’m having a brand NEW giveaway on my blog.

Hi Susie,
Glad you like them!
I tried Butter and L’Esprit and I thought the formula was awful – very streaky and runny! Seemed different that the formula on the winter colors.
Hi Jane,
Oh man sorry your bottles didn’t work out for you! Mine were really nice, which surprised me because they looked like they were going to be a mess!
I really like how Malibu Green looks on your nails, but I really don’t care for the other colours – pastels aren’t my thing.
