It occurred to me that maybe I should have posted this one yesterday since “Monday blues” has a good ring to it…ah but who cares, you can have the blues on Tuesday also!
I think a lot of you have been waiting for this one, and I was kinda putting it off actually. I knew this was going to be another one of those categories I would struggle with. I knew I couldn’t not get only 5 either, so I went with 10. I even had to cut some out that I loved as much as some of these!
Unlike a lot of other categories I have done, these really run the gamut in terms of finishes and variance in color.
In no particular order, here are my top 10 favorite blues!
Night Ops is deep, dark and shimmery. It reminds me of the deep blue ocean and scary great whites, which I am both terrified of and totally fascinated with. Loves it!
Snowcone is a cornflower blue, so while it does have a lot of lavender in it, it falls into the blue category in my book. What can I say I am a sucker for all things this color, and this is my favorite one!
Rescue Beauty Lounge Under The Stars
Horrible washed out pic but hot color! It’s another super deep shimmery one and with a fantastic RBL formula.
Oh, Tiff! is super close to China Glaze For Audrey, but this has a very subtle shimmer, which makes me like it more. Also while this wasn’t the easiest to apply, it was a little better for me than For Audrey. I HEART Tiffany blue. Little known fact: Tiffany has the color “Tiffany Blue” patented so while there may be a lot of colors that look very close, none are the real Tiffany blue.
Phallic is a fabulous deep navy blue with light blue shimmer. I have worn this quite a few times and always stare at my hands (especially in sunlight) when wearing it. It’s mesmerizing.
Robyn was just added to my fav blue list last week when I got it. I wore it last week and absolutely loved it so much. Sky blue is so great with my skin tone and I like that it’s bright not but too bright.
Falling Star is so freakin’ unique it had to make my list. I like the blue but what makes this special is the copper glitter. Had this just been a blue creme or shimmer, no way it would even be in my top 20. BUT the copper glitter just makes it so great and interesting to look at! I also love that it’s not jam packed with the glitter, it’s dispersed quite nicely.
Water Taxi is one I swatched quite a long time ago as you can probably tell, but it’s still up there as one of the best. It’s a pale blue with purple/pink flash. I have yet to see another color like this one and it’s extremely gorgeous in person. It reminds me a little of the OPI Yokohama finishes.
Horrible pic but amazing color. This is one of my very first swatches for this blog! This is a dark blue with tons of light blue shimmer. It looks so much better than this in real life, trust me 🙂
Another one of my very first swatches, but an amazing blue. Every time I look through my polishes and see this one I must at least pick it up and admire it. It’s a robin’s egg blue with shimmer and I have worn it quite a few times. The application on this is particularly great also.
I now challenge YOU to tell me your top favorite blues are!

All of these rock! I would wear everyone one of them. I need Zoya Robyn.
Hi Sonya,
Yes you do, it’s really outstanding.
What I never understood about the Tiffany blue polishes is that in colour patent law, when a hue is patented it means that no other company or product that is in direct competition or field can use the same hue. Nail polish and jewelry are in two different fields, we can have a true Tiffany blue if we wanted one. Maybe someone at these polish companies aren’t doing their patent research?
T-mobile placed a patent on their hue of magenta but I am sure there are polishes in the same hue.
Hi kristina,
Yeah I have no idea about the details of patents. But this one is close enough to Tiffany blue for me 🙂
Love the blues! Every time I wear blue, I get more compliments than with any other colour – true for blouses, sweaters as well as nail polish. I have many of your faves, which is making me want to try them on again! One I would add is Essie Aruba Blue, which is a beautiful, shimmery royal blue. Not sure if you have tried it, but it is beautiful, and has a great formula.
Hi melli,
Me too, blues are so pretty. I have a lot of blue clothing also 🙂 I haven’t tried Aruba Blue from Essie, but it sounds nice!
Falling Star is really nice!! x

Hi beauty,
Yes!
Great choices. all are GORG!
Hi Elysia,
Thank you 🙂
I just got For Audrey and it looks green to me! I think my eyes are going. Apparently cataracts affect the way you see blue. You can see this in Monet’s paintings. They became more yellowy as time went on. Ho hum.
Cutex Huckleberry is a great dirty blue creme.
I love Falling Star and would have been surprised if you’d left that out.
I do love the wide range of these.
CG Secret Peri-wink-le is pretty but maybe not outstanding.
Tell you what I am lemming: BB Couture Impact Driver. How ’bout that one?
Hi Jen,
Secret Periwinkle and Impact Drive were the other two I wanted to include but just barely got edged out. Both are amazing though and get love from me!
Hi VV! Yes, you’re right, at least I have desperately waited for your top 10 blues 🙂 You did a good job. I’m sure you have more blue polishes than I do but I probably couldn’t choose my top 10 because there are sooooo many beautiful blue polishes 🙂 I’m glad to see my all time favourite blue Yoga-ta here. Illamasqua looks amazing!
Hi SannaK,
Yeah this was really hard. I love green, but purple and blue are also my fav colors and I do have a lot of blues!
I have to admit a fondness for China Glaze Rodeo Fanatic. Before I saw that collection, I stuck mostly to pink and red. Rodeo Fanatic was the color that made me realize that I could wear less traditional colors, and now I love them!
Hi Jamie,
That is a great one, you are right!
I love Essie Aruba Blue. 🙂
Hi Kelsey,
melli (below) mentioned that one, I don’t own it and think I need to now!
Now you have hit my soft spot, BLUES! In love “OPI Yoga-Ta Get This Blue!”, I need to add RBL’s color and Orly’s no my growing list!
Hi Jackie S.,
Yes you really do! 🙂
Wow, that’s a lot of pretty blues! The only one I have of these is OPI Yoga-Ta Get This Blue!, but that RBL one is gorgeous too!

Hi SoVeryFabulous,
You need to stock up on blue’s! 😉
Wow, I only have 2 of these colors! & blue is probably my favorite color actually on my nails (although I’m a purple girl at heart LOL). My blue drawer is my 2nd-fullest Helmer drawer, but I’m having trouble thinking of many colors off the top of my head (at work … shhh!). One I do remember from wearing fairly recently though, is Zoya Ibiza. It is a very very dark blue but still doesn’t look black at all/

Hi Colette,
Oh I won’t tell, I promise! Yeah Ibiza is really nice!
Night Ops is so lovely. So is Phallic. I really like how Water Taxie looks, though it reminds me a bit of Essie Huckle Buckle. Thank you for sharing your favorite blues 🙂

Hi Phyrra,
Huckle Buckle is more lavender, but I see what you mean. I love Water Taxi 🙂
You are so right about that copper in Falling Star (Barielle) – it’s Beautiful! I am a long time fan of Tiffany & Co, Audrey Hepburn and everything to do with it, so I feel especially lovely when I’m wearing a Tiffany blue – my favorite is For Audrey (China Glaze).
Hi Rachael,
I feel lame saying this but I have never seen Breakfast At Tiffany’s!! Or actually any Audrey Hepburn movie. I know, I know…
That’s what I love about this, so many different color preferences across the board. Some of these I’d like to have and many I’d pass on. really love seeing other’s favorites though. Phallic may have to be on my next Sephora order. And RBL under the stars is lovely
.-= Elizabeth aka Lacquered Lizard´s last blog ..Tag – Sunshine Award =-.
Hi Elizabeth,
You definitely need Phallic, it’s outstanding!
I am so glad you did the top blues! You have a wide variety, which are all appreciated. My top 10 would probably all consist of the same dark blue purple shimmer and CG For Audrey thrown in there. My favorite blue is OPI Russian Navy.
Hi Leigh-Ann,
I also love Russian Navy. I am going to have a whole “blurple” category also since so many I love are crosses between blue and purple!
wow i really gotta pinch a few pennies together but that phallic(:0) love that color name too, thanks for posting diamond colors on the regular too, thats a goldmine of wonderful colors— gotta get back to my lasagna !!!!! 🙂
HI aaminahs mom,
Mmmmm lasagna sounds so good right now I have eaten nothing today yet!
My favorite blue is China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway. Not the most unique, I guess, but I love that it’s a true dark blue and it compliments my skin tone. I also love Brucci Black and Blue (I think that’s the name…) It’s a dark dark navy jelly. OPI Dating a Royal, although I don’t own it… yet. I’m also leaving a place holder for Lapis of Luxury from the new Essie collection. I’m just sure I’m going to love it.
Hi jamie,
Bermuda Breakaway is a fav blue of mine also. I had a hard time leaving it off this list!
Love all of those shades. My favorite is the Barielle Falling Star. That beautiful dark blue and the copper glitter is amazing! I don’t know how you could even pick your favorites. It’s tough.
Hi Lucy,
It was rough! 🙂
My favorite blue is, hands down, Rimmel London’s “Marine Blue”… but it does border on turquoise or teal, so I’m not sure if it counts, haha. A runner up would have to be OPI Dating A Royal or any of its dupes, I LOVE a dark blue creme.
Definitely looking forward to that blurple entry you mentioned in earlier comments!
Hi Jess,
I am going to do a teal category because I have so many I don’t want to leave them out!
Blue! I adore blue polishes, and I’ve been waiting to see your Top Blues list for a loooong time. Of the ones above, I own Yoga-Ta Get This Blue and CG Caribbean Blue. My fave blues: Essie Mesmerize, BB Couture Sea of Cortez, RBL Bikini Bottom, RBL Dead Calm, Nfu-Oh #557 and OPI Yoga-Ta Get This Blue.
Hi Sky,
I have all those ones you mentioned except maybe the Nfu-Oh. I haven’t yet swatched Bikini Bottom, but know it’s super sheer. I don’t normally like sheers, but I think that will be one I will love!
Oh and as for Audrey Hepburn movies…. I like Charade. Cary Grant is perfect in it.
Hi Sky,
I have never even heard of Charade! I need to get my butt in gear and watch some oldies. I haven’t ever even seen Gone With The Wind or Casablanca, though I read Gone With The Wind. 🙂
Some of my top blues:
.
Milani Bolting Blue. Like you mentioned in your post, it’s one of those colors that when I wear it, I can’t stop staring at my nails. It glows. It’s amazing.
China Glaze Blue Island Iced Tea
China Glaze Dorothy Who? (I know, most people prefer OPI Absolutely Alice, but I strongly prefer this.)
The Icing 7th Inning Stretch
.
OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue and Illamasqua Phallic are on my list to try one of these days – if Sephora would ever get Illamasqua into all of its stores!
Love…I don’t have ANY of these, and I love them all.
.-= Arrianne´s last blog ..China Glaze Wagon Trail =-.
Love love love Falling Star!! New lemming created : ) I’m suprised no one has mentioned Essie’s Starry Starry Night… definitely my all time favorite blue to look at since it seems to be impossible to track down haha
Yay blues! My favorite nail colors are blue and purple, which is a bit funny because I have a lot more greens in my little colllection (I blame the Zoya Green day after Thanksgiving). I think I have…6 or 7 blues, but none of them are ones you showcased =]. I really love Zoya Robyn too
Super amazing picks! I love tiffany-blue (esque) colors a lot. And zoya robyn is super flattering on you! I have it but have yet to try it out.
.-= Polish Earthgirl´s last blog ..Zoya Sparkle Collection =-.
I am so mad at myself. I had Orly’s Snowcone in my hand this afternoon and decided against it. Now I have to go back to the store because I have to have that polish. It looks great. I can only get Orly at Sally Beauty Supply and they are having a buy 2 get one free sale. I need to find 2 more shades…
Misa A Sin Worth Committing is my very favorite. I tried to find color which match to color of my car and I think this is closest.
I like all of these colors. You are adding more things to my list of items to get. I especially like the Barielle & Zoya ones. My fave blue is China Glaze’s For Audrey. I also like Barielle’s Electric Boogie… thanks again! 🙂
.-= Marisol´s last blog ..Europe here I come! =-.
Interesting choices, VV! I only have Orly’s “Snowcone,” which I love. Anyone who is on the fence about that polish should go for it. The touch of lavender in it makes it wearable with my skintone. I know I’m in the minority, but I don’t like the “Falling Stars” polish. Oh well!
Here are some of my favorite blues:
-BB Couture “Prince Charming Blue” beautiful royal blue w/ micro-pink &blue shimmer. Ordered this on a whim & love it. Perfect blue for summer.
-BB Couture “Moon Over Manhattan” …teal-blue w/ flake (I think) glitter. Always get lots of compliments on this one.
-OPI “Suzi Says Feng Shui” …teal-blue creme (almost the same exact color as Moon OVer Manhattan, but without the glitter).
-OPI “Absolutely Alice” OMG!! I’m not all that into glitters, but this one is so amazing. The gold/blue combo is just insane!
Orly is coming out with a shiny, dark blue creme for this summer, it looks beautiful, too! There just simply aren’t enough days for all the polishes I want to wear!
I “need” the Zoya Robyn too. I don’t have any of the any paler blues.
I love Essie’s starry nights. I wish I had stocked up on that color. I also love Zoya’s Ibiza.
I love the blues and the blurples, so I am looking forward to your blurple review.
Under the Stars really does look like the night sky. Unfortunately I’ll never own it because Rescue Beauty Lounge’s polishes are out of my current budget.
One blue that didn’t make your list (but that’s my all-time favourite blue) is China Glaze’s Blue Sparrow. It’s such a gorgeous vibrant blue with blue sparkles that I’m sure you own. Every time I wear it, I find myself staring at my nails like a weirdo. And it’s great because the formula wears like iron – once I wore it for 3 weeks straight before it chipped…and I’m typing a lot for my job!
