Afternoon peeps!
Last weekend I was on a major drug store nail polish excursion. My mission was to find the Milani holo’s (which I did) and maybe some other delicious new finds. Score for me, I got all kinds of goodies and I am showing you the Borghese ones today!
So Borghese is a brand that I have reviewed in the past and was never that enamored with. A lot of times their colors just don’t appeal to me, they are very sheer or just basic reds and pinks that are boring.
I also have a very strong aversion to the bottles, I think they look so incredibly outdated. And don’t even get me started on the caps! But I have learned that sometimes nice things come in hideous packages, and so I looked past that with these puppies. These were all out in the “new” makeup section, so I assume these are new for spring, even though the colors are mostly dark. I only got the three that most appealed to me, but there were also 3 or 4 others.
The formula on these was very nice, creamy, smooth no drag and fairly opaque in two coats. Check them out.
Stellare Notte is a dark blue/green that has tons of purple, pink, green and blue shimmer. This is really hard to describe but it’s very unique. This was the first one I saw of these and I snatched it up immediately for fear it was the last one! This was two coats.
Here you can see all the colors in it, gorgeous isn’t it?
Plumaggio Purple is a dark royal purple with tons of pink and blue shimmer. This is almost a “blurple” but it does learn more towards the purple side, rather than blue. This color totally spoke to me and I love it, though I think I do have a few others that are very similar. I just have a hard time passing up good purples! This was two coats.
Mezzanotte Blue is a dark navy blue creme. This one has an almost watery look to it, if that makes sense, and it’s super shiny. I like this one, but don’t love it. I also think I have a few others deep blues that look very similar. This will look almost black indoors or in low lighting also. I did need three coats because it went on more sheer than the previous two.
Overall I am pretty pleased with these. These are the best Borghese’s I have ever seen, and I hope that means more fun colors will be coming out from them soon. And maybe *hint, hint* they will change their bottles to something more appealing and modern?
I found these at my local CVS and they were $7.99 each, which is a little steep for a drug store brand, I feel. Maybe we have to pay a buck or two extra for their fancy cap. 🙂
Have you guys tried their stuff and what do you think about these ones? Pleasantly surprised perhaps?

I just may have to try some Borghese now after seeing these.

Hi Arrianne,
Yes you just might! 🙂
Oh lord, I love these! I have never tried Borghese, but I think I’ll have to sweep that damn evilbay to find these now. 😉

Hi Feline,
Do it! 😀
I think I tried the last one, Mezznotte Blue. It had an interesting teal undertone to me, but I ultimately returned it because I didn’t think it looked good on me and the formula was a bit off (watery, as you say). The Stellare Notte one looks like Lancome’s Pop Petrol, no? Better price, for sure!
Hi SB_Sweetie,
It’s a little bit like Pop Petrol, but definitely not a dupe. Pop Petrol doesn’t have any others colors in the shimmer like this does.
FYI. Just did browser side-by-side of your pics of Stellare Notte & Pop Petrol. Think I like Stellare Notte better!
They all look amazing on you! I know you say that the last one seems done before, but it gives you the hands of an angel. I have Borghese’s Carnavale Grape (which is a great vampy jelly) and I just bought Gusto Gold Dust today. I saw it on painted Lady fingers and just had to have it.
Hi Sky,
The hands of an angel, haha I love it 🙂
I just did a side-by-side like SB_Sweetie. I focused on VV’s thumb pics. 🙂 The two look very similar.
Hi Sky,
The base is but the shimmer definitely isn’t. Pop Petrol doesn’t have pink/purple/ shimmer in it it’s basically deep teal green with green shimmer.
Hi Kelly:
I will have to look at CVS or another pharmacy for these two Plumaggio Purple and Mezzanotte Blue they both look gorgeous on your nails. I love purples and blue-purples as well. Borghese is such a strange brand name but should be easy to remember the next time I visit. Cool shades.
((((Love Kelly))))
Mc Huggs 🙂
I want to wish everyone of Kelly’s fans a “Happy Vamp Valentine’s Day Weekend! May all your romantic dreams come true for you and your loved ones!

Hi Mc Huggs,
Thanks! They are all great colors and you might like some of the others also. I seem to remember a deep shimmery red.
I have Stellar Notte, it kinda looks like Wet n Wild Morbid, I love them both, but I wants Plummaggio Purple, badly. Everytime I go it’s sold out! AAACK
Hi Elysia,
Ok I actually have Wet n Wild Morbid, it’s been sitting in a “to be swatched” drawer for months! I totally forgot about it and now I really want to compare these!
I have the same aversion to their bottles, tre 1987. Thats why ive never bought one (im really not that shallow i swear! Lol!) but i would def buy stellar if i could find it anywhere. Ive been casually looking for it for weeks now but it is always sadly empty in the display 🙁 just as well, $8 for ds np is highway robbery!
I picked up Stellare Notte after a few weeks of do I need it, no it’s too much like Nubar Peacock Feathers, then finally justified the purchase for a comparison on my blog. LOL. They are different, but similar.
Today, at the Rite-Aid 25% off all cosmetics sale, I picked up these other two for $6 bucks a bottle. I found Mezzanotte Blue in the regular rack…so glad I checked! I had wanted these two for a long time too. Thanks for swatching, now I’m certain I wanted them!

I picked up Plumaggio Purple a couple of weeks ago but I’m still on the hunt for Stellare Notte! I never paid attention to Borghese before but if they keep making colors like these…I’m buying 🙂

I have to have the first two! I went overboard with the drugstore polishes yesterday (new Maybelline, Wet and Wild, Sinful!) at Walgreens but didn’t see these or I would have gotten them too. I’ll try CVS so hopefully I can use my CVS bucks. I wonder how close Stellar compares to Green Duochrome (the one from the holiday mini set).
Borghese had a couple nice colors in fall, too, one called Amaretto Fig, which was a duo shimmer. I’ve really taken to their formula and have no problems with the bottles. The price though. Yeah. That sucks. Borghese used to be a department store brand, which is probably why they cost so much and look like the 80s! They’re trying to maintain the good old days perhaps?!

Hi Kelly,
Love these, especially the Stellare Notte. I just polished my nails with the Wet and Wild Morbid!!
Happy V Day!
I do not really like borghese. They are a little too pricey for me. I also feel like you do not get what you pay for with the brand. I just overall skip anything they come out with. Not original enough for me.
I’ve never bought a borghese polish, although I’ve seen them around. I guess I felt the same as you – the shape of the bottle and the design just really turned me off. I have heard of stellare notte and how awesome it is, and have been looking for it, but the CVS’s by me seem to only have some boring reds and pinks. I’ll keep my eye out for it.
Also, I don’t really get this hard line distinction between “drug store” and “salon” brands… perhaps because the biggest drug store chain in NYC carries OPI, Nicole and Essie. I’ve gotten great wear from Brucci polishes, and they are “drug store” brand, and they cost about the same as China Glaze, which is a “salon” brand. Meanwhile Sally Hansen’s new “salon” line is sold in drug stores, for the same price as OPI, and personally I think the formula is crap. It should really be all about the quality of the formula, shouldn’t it?
Stellar Notte looks interesting. I have never seen Borghese before, so will have to research them a bit and see if they are big 3 free.

Mezzanotte Blue…Ive got my eye on you! I feel like Ive seen this before, any dupes?
