Happy weekend!
Have I got a doozy of a polish for you today. I am very excited to bring to you Lancôme’s Pop Petrol! This is a color that is being released in their spring 2010 Ô My Rose collection.
Now this polish is not being released in the US (at least that’s what they plan now). When I saw promo pics I was dying inside when I heard that it would be European only. Luckily I have a friend named Helen from Helen and Sheenie’s Nice Things who happens to live in England. When I asked her if she would do a swap with me (we did one in summer as well) she was happy to oblige! Thanks so much Helen!
This color wound up not being as green as the promo pics looked so I was a little disappointed when I first laid eyes on it. However I have to say even though it’s not as emerald as I thought it would be, it’s still an amazing color and totally worth owning if you love green and can get your hands on it.
The formula was really excellent. It was almost totally opaque in one coat, but I used two. The brush is a little more wide and flat than I am used to, but it wasn’t hard to work with. Peep it!
I took pictures of this under artificial indoor lighting because the sun hasn’t come out here in 114 million years, and I doubt it ever will. The color is a really deep green/blue shimmery teal. I saw another blog that had a swatch of this and her color looked exactly like mine. Then I saw other swatches and they looked much more green. I don’t know if somehow her formula was greener or maybe her lighting is different, but my bottle definitely didn’t look like an emerald green, it’s much more blue and almost smokey.
In this pic you can see that the shimmer is lighter green, purple and blue. Totally gorgeous, trust me these pics don’t do justice.
You can see the depth of the color here with the shimmer. And no, it doesn’t look black at all, in case you were wondering.
Here’s a zoom shot, where the shimmer comes alive!
The closest thing I own to this would be Deborah Lippmann’s Don’t Tell Mama, but that is definitely not a dupe. It’s a jade green, and more blackened than this.
So what do we think, is it worth hunting down?

I LOVE this colour, though I’m going to pretend I didn’t see this seeing as how it’ll probably be really hard to get my hands on a bottle!

Wow! What an awesome color. I must have a look at it at the airport, where I hope to get it cheaper! 🙂

HELLLLLLLOOOO, gorgeous!! And I will be in Paris next week! Is it out in Europe right now? Must score a bottle when I’m there! Do you know how much it costs?
Hi SB Sweetie,
It is out in England, so I think it’s out everywhere. It was 14 pounds, so around $25.00, I believe. Expensive yes, but so gorgeous!
Wow, ONLY 14 POUNDS IN UK??!! Here in Croatia Lancome nail polishes are something close to 25 pounds, close to, what, 40-50$? They didn’t use to be this expensive but Lancome really raised the prices the last couple of years. Dior’s are about 15 pounds, that 25-30$, and so are other high-end brands!
But I’ve been waiting on this colour for sooo long…it looks so perect!!
I think this looks great! I love how the shimmer makes it multidimensional..

Does it remind you of Don’t Tell Mama?

Hi Di,
I covered that in the post.
It’s available online at http://www.lancome.uk. Buy £50 and it’s free shipping. Not hard to spend £50 on Lancome. I have Piha Black. The blue Magnetic is also available in the shops. I think I may pop in ;o)
Awesome! Plain and simple. Nothing to be added. AWESOME!! I will be at a tax-free shop within a couple of days. *please be there, pop petrol, pleeaase*

Reminds me of Misa Toxic Seduction from the pictures, but a little more blue-toned. I don’t think I could justify hunting this one down.
hmm, i think i’ll pass.
What a gorgeous color!

This beauty is available in Canada too! (For my fellow Cdn readers)
This is such an amazing color.. Would you know by any chance if it’s already being sold in Europe? Can’t wait to get my hands on this one 😛
I think it looks gorgeous on you

Hi Michele,
Yes it is, that’s how I got it. 🙂
Very pretty! I wish I had plans for a Europe trip to go and get some.
Hmm…I’m looking at my bottle of Wet n Wild Morbid and comparing it to your pics and i must say, it *looks* very very similar, except i paid $1.99 at CVS for it. It’s one of my fave colors and i wear it pretty often. Can you tell me how they compare IRL if you have this color in your stash?
Thanks so much and just want to say I really enjoy reading your blog. : )
Hi PugGal,
Sorry I don’t have that one!
I also think it looks very similar to Wet n Wild Morbid (my fave) except maybe slightly more shimmery? I like this one, too.
i usually don’t like dark colors at all but this color is beautiful and i would buy it!
I love it. I also have WnW Morbid, but have not tried it yet. Sooo gorge! But yikes $25???? It’s costly to be gorgeous, eh?
WOW!!!! THIS COLOR IS AMAZING!!!!!
VV—HOW WOULD COMPARE THIS TO NP2 COSMIC RAY? ANY CHANCE YOU CAN DO A REVIEW OF THE DIFFERENCE OF NP2 COSMIC RAY, DEB LIPPMAN DONT TELL MAMA AND LANCOME POP PETROL????
Hi Leigh-Ann,
It very different from Cosmic Ray and Don’t Tell Mama. All you need to do to see the difference is pull up my swatches of all three in three browser windows and compare side by side.
FYI – All caps is yelling. 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion!!! and sorry VV….I’ll stop screaming.
Hi LLeigh-Ann,
Ha, ha no problem! 🙂
I want this color. Now I just need to figure out how to get it.
