We’re almost there, 5:00 is only a few hours away!
I am late to the party with Nubar’s Modern Matte collection for fall 2009, but that’s ok. These are beautiful, satiny, shimmery matte colors that are a lot different from the other mattes I have shown before which are either chalkier OR mostly black and grey tones. I also couldn’t resist putting on Nubar’s Diamont top coat with these to see what they looked like glossy and WOW, I was even more impressed with the bling.
A word about formula on these. These, like most mattes, dry really fast but not as fast as some so you have a brief moment to fix any issues. They are also all two coaters. See results below!
Vital is a wine colored pink/purple with lavender, blue and other colored shimmer.

Just LOOK how shiny and sparkly this is with the diamont top coat! The shimmer in these really stand out when you use a top coat, which completely defeats the whole idea of a matte polish, but I’m a rebel 🙂
Prevail is a strange and beautiful color. It’s a muted greyed out brownish/purple, I suppose. It’s my favorite one because of how unusual it looks.

I mean COME ON, you cannot tell me this isn’t superb! Again the shimmer just comes alive with the top coat.
Contempo is a bright cherry red, really retro looking.

And here Contempo just sings with the top coat on!
Avant-Garde is a orange russet color. It’s my least fav of the bunch until…

Now! Of all these colors, this one changes the most to me when you add the top coat. It’s like tons of layers come out and the effect is so cool.
I love that Nubar stayed away from the typical matte colors of black, grey and white for this collection and they didn’t wind up being chalky or totally flat matte (think OPI’s effort at matte). While I like all of these as mattes, I can’t help but love them even more with a top coat on. You just don’t see the shimmery depths when they are just matte so I will probably be wearing these with a top coat most of the time. You can find these on their website here and they retail for $7.49 each.
So what are you up to this long Labor Day weekend? I plan on watching some Mad Men and Dexter DVD’s and maybe going hiking in Half Moon Bay.
