It’s a grey, foggy dreary Monday morning in SF today. Hopefully some of these cool polishes from Kleancolor will cheer those of us up who live around here!
Kleancolor is a cosmetic brand that is new to me. They have been around for about 15 years and make a variety of products such as eye makeup, concealer, foundation, blush, etc. They have just over 100 different color of nail polish in a variety of finishes such as sheer, pearl, glitter and cremes. They also have 22 colors of polish used for nail art that have small fine brushes for precision painting.
Today I am reviewing five of the sheer/pearl/creme colors and tomorrow I will have four glitters for you. Peep em out! Oh and as a side note, I made these pics really large. Let me know if you prefer them this big, which can mean slower download time, or smaller like they normally are.
Sweet Purple
Sweet Purple is a very nice lavender pearl that flashes pink and blue depending on the lighting. This is very sheer and even after three coats I was hoping for a little more color payoff. The formula was really nice, no issues to report.
Real Garnet
Real Garnet looks like it’s going to be a medium creamy red color, but in fact is super sheer and has more of a pink/red color to it. I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t like this at all. It was just so sheer and almost watery and I like colors with a serious *impact*, which this doesn’t have. This was three coats.
Sonic Boom
Sonic Boom is a green teal with a very interesting finish. When I was applying it, it went on REALLY sheer and also a wee bit watery. After three coats (again I was hoping for more color payout after three coats) I noticed some very small silver glitter pieces in it. I mean they were SO small I couldn’t see them in the bottle or on my nails until I saw the pics blown up. You can see them here. It makes for a more interesting color, but still too sheer for me.
Deep Passion
Deep Passion is a dark, vampy, wine colored creme. Finally some serious color! This didn’t apply as evenly as I would have liked, but I frequently have this issue with these dark wine colored cremes. After three coats it was looking pretty nice, though not what I would classify as anything “original”.
Purple Velvet
Purple Velvet is the darker sister to Sweet Purple. This is more of a grape colored pearl polish that doesn’t have the same pink/blue flash to it. I like this a lot, but AGAIN it was too sheer for my tastes. This was three coats.
I will reserve my overall opinion for the second half of these tomorrow, so stay tuned! You can check out their website here and the colors retail for just $1.49 each, which is definitely a huge bonus!!

sonic boom is super pretty!
Hi Kelly:
Your nails look so gorgeous and beautiful as always. I wonder if the low cost of the polish means the quality isn’t as good as say a China Glaze or OPI polish which sells for about $8-9 US. However, after I see them on your amazing nails, I just amazes me how you can make any nail varnish look good.
I love the size of the pictures and these were so good I just had to print them out and see how they compare to the screen swatches. I hope you get many votes to keep the swatches this size.
My favorites: I love purple velvet (PV) grape, purple, lavender colors I love but doesn’t have the smash as say a Sephora by OPI “Don’t GO There” which I love that shade. Deep Passion (DP) is my favorite of the lot, the wine creme, dark and vampy looks so cool but I worry about the application. Sonic Boom, (SB) I love the teal color as I am wearing, Nicole by OPI, “True Blue” on my toes is a fun blue and green color, again I worry about the application process.
Real Garnet (RG) is more like a pinkish red to me and not enough red to make it “pop” like other reds I have seen before. “Sweet Purple, (SP) looks more of a pinkish lavender, as you mentioned and even though it looks sensational on your beautiful nails it looks more of a cheery red.
The low cost $ 1.49 each I would definitely be interested in PV, SB and my favorite DP.
((((((Love Kelly)))))
Mc Huggs 🙂
I really like these colors and you can’t beat the price. Can’t wait to see your overall review of them.
I like the larger size! I think it really helps show the true colors in the polish and maybe the hidden shimmer that’s hard to see from time to time.
These colors are pretty!
I’m normally not a big fan of pink but I think that Real Garnet looks so pretty on you! It almost looks jelly-like and I love that. I also like Sonic Boom, it reminds me of Essie Greenport or Misa DSM.
I was disappointed with Kleancolor polishes as well but I loved the color of Sonic Boom and decided to take advantage of its sheerness to make a glittery jelly holo franken in the sort of Nubar Sour Candy, Sugar jelly glitters (including big hex glitter — too bad it doesn’t show up too well in my pics!): http://polishorperish.blogspot.com/2009/07/adding-sixth-blogger-to-p-or-p-gang.html
