What’s the Deal?

No Cell Phone Whats the Deal?

Yes I’m still harping about phones, in a manner of speaking. I just came from the bathroom at work. Don’t worry this isn’t going to get gross.

A woman was in another stall next to me. All fine and dandy right? Wrong! She was on her cell phone chattering away as though she was in her own private office. I have actually noticed this A LOT lately at work, particularly with the cleaning crew for some reason, and someone who I work with!

I find it completely disgusting and rude. I mean think about it. You are on the cell phone with your hands (usually). You use those hands to do things I would rather not discuss here, in a bathroom stall. That is why you wash your hands. But do you also wipe down your cell phone with a Clorox wipe? Chances are, no. Which means you might as well have dipped your hands into the toilet because the germs are going right back on your hands (and the side of your face) as soon as you touch your phone. This is why the flu spreads, but that’s a story for another time…

Everyone should know that its also totally rude, unless they are half donkey or something. I mean come on, the bathroom is a private area, and not exactly the kind of place you want turned into a sound stage!

My only recourse for this disgusting practice is to flush the toilet a bunch of times and swing the door open hard so it slams into the wall. I also tend to cough really loud. Basically I am trying to A. Piss the person off  B. Make them aware that what they are doing might not be cool and C. Make the person on the other end say “OMG, are you in the BATHROOM????”. But it never seems to work.

Have you experienced this?

Little Known Fact

Girl on Phone Little Known Fact

Little known fact about me: I HATE talking on the phone. I mean I avoid it pretty much at all costs.

When I was a teenager, I was typical. I talked on the phone for hours and hours at a time. I even remember watching complete movies while on the other end with people. We would just put the phone down when the movie came on then talk during commercials. WHO does that? So weird! Anyway, it was around the advent of email when I started to dislike the phone. Then once I started IM-ing back in 1997, I REALLY started to hate the phone. Now that I have Facebook, Twitter and an iPhone, I see no point in ever talking on the phone again.

The reason I don’t like it is mainly this: people talk too much!! I have nothing against talking with people in person. Or talking to someone I haven’t talked to in a really long time (a good friend perhaps). But normal day to day dribble with people I see or talk to on a regular basis makes me queasy. I prefer email because it’s to the point. No one is going to drone on and on about the weather or what they had for lunch or what book they are reading for an hour in an email. They are going to type what they want and be done with it. And even if they do type TMI, you can choose to quickly scan over it. Thereby saving time and brain capacity!

When you’re on the phone with someone, you are virtually trapped. You are forced to listen to topics you could care less about, and pretend you’re interested. This is why I do not answer my phone at home. Like ever. Unless I am expecting some kind of urgent call, my phone goes to the recorder every time. I feel the same way about answering it at work. I don’t normally answer it if I don’t recognize the caller ID#, and rarely answer it even if I know who it is, unless I know it’s important. It never fails that people leave a message or send an email anyway. If you send me an email I will respond usually within 1 hour because I am always on email (unless I am asleep). Yes I do have an iPhone but you wanna know how much I use the phone aspect? I only have logged 9 hours and 13 minutes of actual call time in the life of it. I do not use my iPhone for the phone. I use it for music, internet and texting.

You might think that I am totally anti-social because of this, and you would be right. No, I’m just kidding…kind of. I like socializing with a very small set of people, but otherwise I am really only “there” in body, not mind. But those people who I do socialize with know that they are very special to me because of this. icon smile Little Known Fact

So yeah, I hate the phone and prefer email, Twitter, Facebook and IM. Sue me!

Vampy Varnish Rant/Rave: December 11, 2009

Screaming Monster1 Vampy Varnish Rant/Rave: December 11, 2009

I want to try a new kind of post today called Rant/Rave. It will be housed under this Poppycock section of my blog.

Originally when I re-did the website I meant to have this, but never got around to it. This will be an area where I will mostly be posting quick (or long) blurbs about things (not nail polish related) that I want to either rant or rave about. I thought about starting a whole different blog for this since this is the “real” me, but just never got around to it. Who knows, maybe in the future I will!

I don’t know if you can tell from my regular nail posts, but I’m a fairly cynical and sarcastic person. It’s probably a huge reason why I am such a fan of Dooce, Nothing But Bonfires and Full of Snark. I’m not Mrs. Negativity, but I’m not all about flowers and unicorns either. I try not to let that bleed too much into my nail posts because it’s not really appropriate, but those of you who follow me on Twitter might have seen that side of me. I wasn’t really aware of the distinct separation until a Twitter friend asked me if I was ok because I had been posting some “sharper” tweets. But really, that’s totally who I am, I tend to shoot my mouth off when things annoy me, and if I happen to be on Twitter when that happens, then people see it.

I have become much more blunt in recent years. Probably around age 30 or 31 I became much more comfortable in my own skin, and I decided I’m not gonna waste my time trying to impress others. I don’t waste my time at work making friends with people who I don’t really like, because I’m there to do a job, that’s it. I don’t waste my time trying to still be friends with people who I used to be friends with if we have nothing in common anymore. Life is too short people!

So without further adieu here are some things that bug the hell out of me:

  1. People who steal my pics and use them on eBay or other sites without crediting me
  2. Spitting in public
  3. Crocs
  4. People who act like they are humble and always say “little old me” but really are total braggarts
  5. When people spell “a lot” like “allot” or “alot”

That’s all for now, lest you start revolting and never come back, LOL!

Let me know YOUR rants I wanna hear them!
