The Black Dahlia Lacquer Austin Collection is a 10-piece vegan collection featuring nail lacquer shades inspired by the city of Austin.
This is my first ever experience with the indie brand, and I’m impressed with what I have tried out so far. This collection features crellies, shimmers and holos in a variety of unique and interesting shades.
The formula was pretty good with all of these. They tend to be on the thicker side and for the most part I only needed two coats. A few required three to get them completely even.
My Butter Half is a gold shimmer with gold micro-shimmer. This leans more towards the yellow side in my eyes but it’s lovely and unique just the same. This was three thin coats.
Capital Rose Garden is a coral pink with color-shifting shimmer and a scattered holo effect. The holo effect in this one is subtle, but it’s definitely there. This was two coats.
Austin City Limits is a light periwinkle linear holo with blue glass flecks, gold shimmer and gold micro-glitter. So unique and pretty! This is one of my favorites because I have nothing like it. I absolutely love the gold glitter with the periwinkle. This was three thin coats.
Barton Springs Babe is a green crelly with blue/green shimmer and navy blue flakes. Another favorite of mine. This is a beautiful green shade and I love the blue flakes throughout. This was two coats.
South Congress Bats is a pale army green with scattered holo. This looks both army green and grey at the same time and I love the holo in it. It applied like butter in two coats.
SXSW Fever is a deep teal with green shimmer and blue flakes. Yet ANOTHER beautiful shade. Pigmented, bright and unique. This was two coats.
Blue Bonnet Bingo is a bright blue crelly with purple shimmer. Whoa! Even though I did need three coats with this one to get it even, I am completely in love. This blue is stunning by itself but then add that shimmer and it’s even better. Love.
90 in November is a medium violet with color-shifting shimmer. It’s bright yet deep, very pigmented and even and super pretty. This was two coats.
Lady Bird Lake is a navy blue linear holo with gold shimmer and gold glass flecks. I don’t see the glass flecks in this one as much as I see the holo, but it’s nice nonetheless. This was two creamy coats.
Woke Up on 6th Street is a holographic silver glitter with accents of gold, aqua and navy glitter. It’s meant to be a full coverage polish, but you could also do one thin coat over a colored polish. This is two coats here and it covered pretty nicely but not completely. It applies fairly evenly and I didn’t have any clumpy areas.
Gorgeous shades! If I had one complaint about this line it’s that the brushes are really long (the bottle is also taller than a “normal” bottle) and that isn’t my favorite. Having said that though, it’s not hard to apply the polish, just maybe not what I am used to.
My personal faves here are Blue Bonnet Bingo, SXSW Fever, Barton Springs Babe and Austin City Limits.
