Color Club Master Of Disguise

Happy almost Friday!

Today I’ve got Color Club’s new collection of mini’s for Halloween called Master Of Disguise! I was so happy to see these because Halloween is my very favorite holiday, and this means it’s coming up soon!

As I mentioned, these are mini bottles which is probably fine since most of them aren’t colors you would probably wear every day. With one exception, which is my favorite icon smile Color Club Master Of Disguise Check ‘em out!

Ghost Of A Chance

Ghost Of A Chance is a white creme. It’s a pretty stark white, but does seem to have a hint of cream color in it. As with most white’s it was a wee bit thick and streaky, but was decent after 3 coats.

MAC Nail Trend F/W ’09 by Jin Soon

Half of our short week is almost over, can you just deal with a couple more days of work until freedom?

As you may have heard MAC has released a new collection of six nail polishes for fall/winter 2009. This collection was created by Jin Soon, who is a professional nail artist and founder/owner of Jin Soon Natural Hand and Foot Spas in New York. To be honest, I had never heard of her before this collection came out. I’m not really one to fall all over myself following every single nail technician and fashion trend around. I like what I like, doesn’t matter what “fashion” folks tell me to like. Just keepin’ it real.

This collection definitely says “fall” to me, the (mostly) creme colors are dark, vampy and some a bit unusual. I am totally in love with a few of them and just kinda *meh* on a few others.

The formula on these is pretty decent. They are thin and all applied very evenly and needed three coats. Not sure about wear compared to MAC polishes of ‘yore (which tend to be chippy) because I haven’t yet worn any of these for any length of time. Peep ‘em!

MAC Cool Reserve MAC Nail Trend F/W 09 by Jin Soon
Cool Reserve

Cool Reserve is a very pale grey/lavender creme. It reminds me of a lighter version of Sephora’s Metro Chic. I like this, but feel like it’s already been done before. This was three coats.

China Glaze Glitters

Morning party people!

Today I’ve got some of China Glaze’s new glitter nail polishes. They are coming out with FIFTY glitters, if you can believe it. Ugh, I fear I will need an entire new storage cart just for my China Glaze at this point! And I have heard that they will also have some other glitters that are exclusive to Sally’s and not even part of the 50!

In general I am not a huge fan of glitters. I like them (some of them) but don’t LOVE them. I feel a wee bit too old to be wearing a lot of them, especially the ones with huge chunks in them, so I tend to stick to polishes with smaller glitter pieces when I wear them. Another issue for me with glitter is that they tend to be chunky, not smooth and that kind of drives me batty. icon smile China Glaze Glitters

The formula on these is thick. You definitely need a good 2 minutes drying time between each coat and you will need three coats for all of these for maximum impact. Most of these have different shaped and sized glitter in them. I didn’t show these with a top coat and you’ll see that some look really chunky. A good thick top coat like Poshe or Seche Vite will help smooth them out though. Enjoy!

Preppy Pink is a pale, very girly pink with lighter colored opalescent glitter. I only used two coats here and really should have used three.

Vampy Varnish Turns 1 Year Old!

Birthday Vampy Varnish Turns 1 Year Old!

Today my blog is a year old. It’s really hard to believe I have been doing it that long already, it seems like I just started! But my oh my, how far I have come in a year!

When I first started, I had a crappy camera and really no clue how to use the macro settings and how to position my hand for the photos. I shudder when I see pics older than 6 months because compared to now, they look terrible! But as they say, practice makes perfect (and a really good camera helps) and I think I’m getting better and better.

This isn’t going to be a long dissertation or anything, but I wanted to just thank you, my loyal readers for sticking by me this past year. If it wasn’t for you, I would just be a bag of hot air whining away to the large, vast space that is the Internet. But luckily I know someone is listening, because I see the statistics, and know you are out there!

So without further adieu, to reward one lucky reader of mine, I announce a totally awesome, fantabulous nail polish giveaway!!!

The deets are these:

One lucky person will win an Apocalyptic Nail Kit by Urban Decay! YES you heard me, Urban Decay is back in the nail polish biz and everyone I know is quite excited about it. I owned a few about 15 years ago, and of course don’t have them anymore. I don’t have swatches yet of these yet as I’m still waiting for mine to come in, but trust me when I say they are going to be amazing! There are 7 mini bottles in this collection and you can view them here.

All you need to do to enter is leave a comment and let me know what your favorite Urban Decay product is. If you’ve never used Urban Decay before then let me know what your other favorite makeup product is. This giveaway will be open now until September 9th at 8:00 pm, Pacific. Please only ONE entry per person.

Good luck and thanks for reading Vampy Varnish!

Pixie Dust is an awesome pale blue/grey with silver shimmer. It almost looks sugar coated, which I love! This was three coats.
