Happy Friday everyone!
I decided to do something a little different for Friday faves today. Rather than pick more makeup or nail polish to talk about I wanted to show you my favorite books of all time.
Considering my book collection is pretty large I actually didn’t have a hard time with this challenge. Most of these books have been my favorites for 30+ years now and they will always remain so. I have about a million other books I absolutely love as well, but I can’t list ’em all or we would be here all month long!
The Outsiders – The copy I have is super old, I stole it from my sister when I was probably 11 or 12. This story will always hold up and be relevant even though the “Greaser” details are very 1950’s. I have probably read this book at least 8 times all the way through.
Lord Of The Flies – I was first introduced to this book in 4th or 5th grade and then I re-read it in high school. Again, another book that is extremely relevant in society now.
The Stand – Stephen King is one of my favorite authors (I have every single one of his books) and I read The Stand uncut version back in the 80’s. And then right after I finished it, the uncut version came out which had I think 300+ more pages! So I immediately re-read it. I’ve been wanting to read it again because it’s been a long time since I have. Excellent story and apocalyptic themes are a favorite of mine.
Sharp Objects – This is one of the newer books that makes my list. I read Sharp Objects when it came out and it blew my mind. There was NOTHING like this out there that I had found and it was so me I can’t even explain it. The story is so good, creepy and twisted and her writing is phenomenal. I love all her books but this is my favorite. Now there are a billion books similar to her style and I have read tons of them. Many are really great, some not so much.
The Chronicles Of Narnia – I think I have read The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe in particular about 15 times and that’s my favorite one in the series. I was so desperate for Narnia to actually exist and I would totally live there now if I could. 🙂
To Kill A Mockingbird – This is another one that I was forced to read in school but wound up loving (which was rare). I think I read it twice in school throughout the years and once or twice again after that. This book is crazily relevant to what’s going on right now in the world as well.
The Phantom Tollbooth – I believe this was another one that I read in school but completely fell in love with it. Such a cool story and theme. I wanted to live in Milo’s world!
The Hunger Games trilogy – And finally this is the last of them and another set of newer stories. I have read the entire series twice now. As mentioned earlier, apocalyptic themes always get me and these were just so engrossing and fun. I have found a lot of “young adult” series I really like. I’m glad this series became so huge because it opened up a whole new genre, just like Gillian Flynn’s books have.
What are your favorite books?
