The New Orleans Collection by OPI for spring 2016 was inspired by “the filigreed iron of its balconies to the jazz and jambalaya that permeate its air, New Orleans personifies grace, gumption and joie de vivre.”
I went to New Orleans back in 2001 or 2002 and while some of these colors I can see represent the city, I feel like others are just kind of regular ‘ole colors that could be in any collection. One would expect to see more glittery and/or shimmery shades in this collection since there are so many colorful lights, beads and glittery sequined costumes during Mardi Gras, but most of these are cremes. My personal feelings for New Orleans started in 1988 when I first discovered the Anne Rice Interview with the Vampire series. Those books described the city so well and I was totally obsessed with going there. When I did visit I did a walking tour of the Garden District and saw her house as well as Trent Reznor’s house. My trip overall was fairly miserable though because it was July, BLAZING hot and humid, and a huge music festival was going on there (which I wasn’t aware of) so it was just packed with people. I am glad I got to see it pre-Katrina though.
Take a Right on Bourbon is a warm-toned silver frost. Nope. This one is a throwback to 1983 and not in a good way. This was two brush-streaky coats.
Let Me Bayou a Drink is a light pink shimmer. This is a really pretty, feminine shade and it covered in three coats. It’s kind of princess-y but does not say “New Orleans” to me at all.
Suzi Nails New Orleans is a medium bright pink creme. Nice shade, not unique though. This was three coats.
Crawfishin’ for a Compliment is a medium cool-toned tangerine creme. I love this one and yes, it seems fitting for the collection. This was two coats.
Humidi-tea is a pale pink/tan shimmer. Well the name sure is accurate, haha! This was two coats.
Got Myself into a Jam-balaya is a warm-toned medium pink creme. Another pretty pink shade, but not that unique. This was two coats.
She’s a Bad Muffuletta! is a hot reddish/pink creme. Beautiful shade and the name cracks me up. This was two coats.
Show Us Your Tips! (really?) is a periwinkle with tons ‘o’ shimmer. Beautiful color and probably the most unique one here. This was three thin coats.
I Manicure for Beads is a warm-toned medium purple creme. I usually don’t think much of these kinds of purples, but I actually like this one on me. This was two coats.
Spare Me a French Quarter? is a raspberry creme. Not my favorite color on me, but it covered in two coats.
I’m Sooo Swamped! is a bright cool-toned grass green creme. LOVE. A beautiful green, happy to have this one. This was two coats.
Rich Girls & Po-Boys is a bright sky blue creme. Another beauty, it’s bright, creamy and my second favorite here. It covered in two coats.
Kind of weird that there isn’t a gold in the bunch, right? I would have thought there would be a gold and less pink shades, but there you have it. My personal favorites are Crawfishin’ for a Compliment, Show Us Your Tips!, I’m Sooo Swamped! and Rich Girls & Po-Boys. I think Take a Right on Bourbon was a big mistake, we could have had a super glittery and cool gold metallic rather than that one!
You can find this collection out now at Ulta, Regis, online, etc.
Which ones do you think are worth checking out in person?
