Blackheart Beauty Nail Polish

Back in the day when I was a teen, I would have KILLED for a store like Hot Topic at the mall. You see, for us poor children of the 80’s, there was no such cool store around these here parts unless you went to Telegraph Avenue, which I often did. Hot Topic would have been my mecca.

When I was there recently, I came across Blackheart Beauty Nail Polish and nearly had a heart attack when I saw how cool the bottles were. I mean skulls. SKULLS! Does nail polish come in a cooler bottle shape? Nope. I had a hard time picking which ones to try out, there are so many colors and finishes. After juggling about ten different ones I put some back, decided to control myself somewhat, and choose just five.

Oh, and I’ve been told these are made with all sorts of delicious chemicals, so don’t eat them. 😉

Blackheart Beauty Mint Shimmer

Mint Shimmer

Mint Shimmer is not in fact a mint shimmer. It’s a pale blue with gold shimmer and it’s really, really pretty. It is a little on the streaky side, but not too bad overall. This was three thin coats.

Blackheart Beauty Orchid Shimmer

Orchid Shimmer

Orchid Shimmer is a pale purple with gold shimmer. Wowzers! It’s funny but I don’t expect something this soft, feminine and almost princess-like to come out of a skull. Very pretty shade and pretty great formula. This was two coats.

Blackheart Beauty Chartreuse

Chartreuse is a lime green with blue, green and gold glitter pieces. It’s definitely on the more sheer side and even after three coats doesn’t cover completely evenly. Still a cool shade.

Blackheart Beauty Dark Mint

Dark Mint

Dark Mint is a deep teal green with light green shimmer. This is much prettier in person. It’s a wee bit uneven, but pretty much ok after two coats.

Blackheart Beauty Glow in the Dark

Glow in the Dark

And here we have a horribly grainy iPhone photo of the Glow in the Dark one. I have never got the hang of taking un-grainy dark photos. Anyway, it does work but it takes awhile to warm up under a light, and it’s not really THAT glowy. I turned up the contrast in the photo so you could actually see it. I say skip this one.

So yeah SKULLS!

I really did buy these for the bottles. If these colors had been in normal shaped bottles I wouldn’t have even bothered with any of them. Having said that though, I am pleasantly surprised with how pretty they wound up being.

You can find these at Hot Topic.

Would you buy these for the shape alone?
