MLB Collection by OPI

Just in time for the opening regular week of baseball is the MLB Collection by OPI.

This collection consists of seven limited edition shades, all inspired by the colors of Major League Baseball. This is actually the first ever professional sports league licensing agreement for OPI.

I am glad that MLB is recognizing that there are women out there who love the sport and who might want to wear nail polish to represent their favorite team. Oh and of course guys, feel free to wear these if you want as well! Here is a quote from Howard Smith, Senior Vice President, Licensing, Major League Baseball “Major League Baseball understands the importance of female fans in the growth and success of our sport, and so we continuously seek new opportunities to diversify our portfolio of licensed offerings to target this extensive fan base. We are beyond thrilled to partner with OPI, a premium brand in a unique category of business, to launch this new line of exclusive nail polish, giving fans yet another colorful way to show off their team pride at the start of the 2014 baseball season.”

Now, let’s PLAY BALL! Sorry, I had to.

MLB Collection by OPI

OPI Girls Love Diamonds

Girls Love Diamonds

Girls Love Diamonds is a shimmery pale white with pink and green running throughout. This is the most sheer color of the bunch so I used three coats to cover my nails.

OPI Orange You Going To The Game?

Orange You Going To The Game?

Orange You Going To The Game? is a bright frosty orange. Awwww man I wish this didn’t have that frost finish. The color is nice but the finish is very brush stroke-y. It would have been better as a shimmer or creme in my book. This was two coats.

OPI Short-STOP!

Short-STOP!

Short-STOP! is a medium red creme. It covered really nicely and was super smooth with just two coats. Nice shade, nothing mind-blowing or unique though.

OPI Right Off The Bat

Right Off The Bat

Right Off The Bat is a slightly frosty navy blue. Ok so yes it’s kind of frosty but it’s much less frosty than the orange shade. It looks to be more of a shimmer and it’s actually a nice color. Not very brush stroke-y, and it covered in two coats.

OPI Love Athletes in Cleats

Love Athletes in Cleats

Love Athletes in Cleats is a shimmery red. Now this is the stand-out shade in the collection for sure. The red base is a gorgeous candy-apple shade, and the pink shimmer is an excellent touch. Great formula, this was two coats.

OPI Umpires Come Out at Night

Umpires Come Out at Night

Umpires Come Out at Night is a deep cobalt blue creme. This is another really gorgeous shade. It applied a little bit uneven for me so I did need three coats.

OPI 7th Inning Strrretch

7th Inning Strrretch

7th Inning Strrretch is a frosty steel blue. Yep, another frost. I like the dark blue/grey shade but the finish just isn’t doing it for me. It was a little brush stroke-y, but again, not quite as bad as the orange. This was two coats.

OPI SF Giants Mani

So of course I had to do a quickie mani showing the SF Giants shades because they are our local team (well them and the A’s, but meh).

OPI Atlanta Braves Mani

And just for Mr. VV here is an Atlanta Braves mani because they are his favorite team. Yep, he’s from Georgia originally!

Overall: There are some good shades here, but some others that I wasn’t completely enamored with. I think the best ones in terms of color and formula were Love Athletes in Cleats and Umpires Come Out at Night. Short-STOP! had a great formula as well, but it’s just another red creme. I guess a red creme is appropriate for a baseball shade though. As far as Orange You Going to The Game? and 7th Inning Strretch, they were too frosty for my taste. Right Off The Bat teetered on being too frosty but it was pretty nice overall.

Availability: In stores this month for a limited time.

Pricing: $9.00.
