L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint

L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint is a brand new product this spring and I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about it lately!

Upon first glance these seem extremely similar to the new Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks, which I reviewed recently. I actually thought they were going to be less expensive versions of them. But it turns out they are actually more like OCC Lip Tars!

Glazed Lip Paints are a hybrid of a lipstick and a lip gloss. They have a nice intense finish like a lipstick, but they’re nice and shiny like a gloss. They have vitamin E and peppermint oil in them, and they smell and taste just like Lip Tars. They currently come in six shades.

So how are they similar to Lip Tar beyond the tube shape and peppermint scent? Well they have the same kind of “applicator”. I say that in quotes because you definitely do not want to apply these straight from the tube using the applicator. I tried that with the first one and it turned into a huge mess. That’s when I realized how much the formula was like Lip Tar. You only need a small dab and you have to use a lip brush to get a nice and even application. If you use too much they get very messy and bleed all over, just like Lip Tars do.

The colors are all really intense and glossy, so in that way they are similar to the Too Faced Melted shades. The texture is very different though. They are much more of a liquid-y gloss (like Lip Tar) whereas Melted is more of a creamy lipstick texture.

And now to compare them to some OCC Lip Tar shades that I have. Keep in mind I have nearly all of them and I believe these are the closest matches.

Overall: Ok so we already know that you will need just a small amount and you have to apply them with a brush. I did have some issues with a few of them settling into lip lines a little more than I prefer. Having said that I really like most of the shades themselves. I think Hot Mess, Bombshell and Pin-Up are gorgeous and Coy is super cool looking as well. Babydoll was the one I liked the least because these pinks are REALLY hard to pull off, plus it settled into lip lines the most. Blushing is probably the most “natural” shade and it had a nice formula.

Now which do I prefer – these, Lip Tars or Melted? Well Melted is pretty different so I’m not even going to compare them to these (although I prefer the Melted texture and applicator more than Lip Tar and these). I feel like these are extremely similar to Lip Tars though. Lip Tars might be a bit more pigmented and you need even less of them than you do with these. Of course there is a significant price difference between the two as well to consider. Lip Tars are $18.00 for 0.33 oz and these are $4.00 for 0.40 oz. I think Lip Tars are overall are a better quality, and of course the color range is much more vast, but these are a nice inexpensive alternative.

Availability: L.A. Girl.

Pricing: $4.00 for 0.40 oz.

So now that you have seen them, what do you think? Are you going to try them out?
