Top Ten Primers

Happy Tuesday! Today I’ve got my top ten primers for you. This is a category where some products pretty much stay the same year after year but others change as new ones come out.

As you might suspect the eyeshadow primers are the ones that tend to stay the same for me. And actually they are the single-most miraculous beauty product ever invented as far as I’m concerned. I’ve said this before but in case you’re newer to my site, here’s some background on why I think they’re so great.

I have hooded eyes and until eye primers started coming out I suffered from horrifically creasing eyeshadow all the time. In fact no matter what I tried and no matter the brand or type of eyeshadow, I would have terrible creasing within a couple hours, and it would only get worse as each hour passed. I spent a BUTT-LOAD of time smoothing out my eyeshadow and patting down creases with my finger. ARGH! But then primers came along and my life was complete. 😉

Top Ten Primers-2

Too Faced Shadow Insurance ($20), Milani Eyeshadow Primer ($6.49), Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($24)

Too Faced Shadow Insurance: This one has been in my top favorites for many years now. I love it because it’s invisible, helps my shadow last a good 12-14 hours easily and eyeshadows are easy to blend over it.

Milani Eyeshadow Primer: Now this is a slightly newer discovery since I think it just came out early last year, but it rapidly became a fave. It’s as great as the Too Faced one but less expensive and easy to find in drugstores!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion: UDPP was my first ever real eyeshadow primer and so she will always have a special place in my heart. I find my eyeshadow lasts forever when I use this, with nary a crease in sight.

Top Ten Primers-3

MAC Prep + Prime Colour Correcting SPF 30 ($30), Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer ($34), Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing ($38)

MAC Prep + Prime Colour Correcting SPF 30: This one recently came out and has four different “shades”: Adjust, Illuminate, Neutralize and Recharge, which are all for different purposes. I used Neutralize and liked how it cut down on the redness in my cheeks and around my nose. Plus an SPF 30 is great!

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer SPF 30: I really like this one because it’s not just a clear primer, it also has color. It comes in five shades and for me Light worked best. Love the silky finish and it does a great job of hiding imperfections and pores.

Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing: Here s great one of you want some luminosity in your skin. Use it sparingly though because it cane get a little too shimmery if you go overboard. I tend to apply it only in certain areas on my face rather than all-over.

Top Ten Primers-4

Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer Potion ($31), Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure ($30), NARS Pro-Prime ($34), Benefit Stay Flawless ($32)

Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Complexion Primer Potion: This one has a very soft and silky feel to it and it’s invisible on the skin. It works really nicely with the Naked Skin Foundation and I never need to touch-up oily spots when I use it because it lasts all day.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure Oil-Free Skin Smoothing Face Primer For Sensitive Skin: Ahhh this has been one of my favorite face primers for awhile now. It’s clear, silky, oil-free and does an excellent job of smoothing out pores and flaws.

NARS Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer SPF 15: I really like this one because it feels super smooth going on, almost like a creamy moisturizer rather than a primer. It’s also oil-free and never feels heavy or sticky on my face. The fact that it has SPF 15 in it is a bonus. Great primer!

Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer: Aside from the ridiculously cute packaging, this stuff is pretty nice. I like the stick-formula it’s kind of fun to apply. It’s also perfect for traveling since it’s small and won’t cause a liquid-y mess if it opens. Great for spot priming!
