OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand Swatches and Review

OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand

OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand is a new mini nail lacquer collection that was released alongside the new OPI Brazil collection for spring/summer 2014.

Inside the set you will find four bright nail shades with their textured Liquid Sand finish. As with all the Liquid Sand colors, these are meant to be worn without a top coat. The formula was good with all, I only needed two coats for complete coverage. They are harder to use because the brush is so tiny.

OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand-2

When I say mini, I mean mini! This is them next to big daddy OPI. They are 1/8 fl oz each.

OPI Samba-dy Loves Purple

Samba-dy Loves Purple is a medium violet shade.

OPI I'm Brazil Nuts Over You

I’m Brazil Nuts Over You

I’m Brazil Nuts Over You is a warm pink. This is my favorite shade here, very bright and summery.

OPI What's A Little Rain Forest?

What’s A Little Rain Forest? is a medium bright blue.

OPI You're So Flippy Floppy

You’re So Flippy Floppy

You’re So Flippy Floppy is a warm-toned yellow.

OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand Collection

Overall: Cute set and it definitely fits the “Brazil” theme in terms of colors and the sandy texture. The bottles are uber-small so you won’t get a ton of use from each one, but they are nice shades nonetheless.

Availability: Out now at stores.

Pricing: $12.95 for the set.

Yea or nay to these minis?

Will you be buying it for just that shade or is it not worth it to you?

  • February 11, 2014

Such pretty color payoff without a top coat!

When the press release photos starting surfacing, I wasn’t really wow’d by the collection. Now that swatches are popping up, I really want the entire collection!

It is a pretty cute and summery collection.

  • February 11, 2014

Well…. I really was excited for the Brazil Liquid Sands.. but now… only minis? Who the hell had this stupid idea? :<

      Awww sorry!

  • February 11, 2014

I’m guessing the sands hadn’t been selling as well, so they decided to make them minis. Minis are SUCH a pain in the butt to me, but I’m seriously tempted because the colors are so pretty. (But really, that price for bottles that you can’t get much use out of?!)

    Do these have any shimmer?

I know, they are really small. They do have some shimmer, they’re shimmery sandies.

These shades are more like what I think of when I think of Carnival and Brazil! :-D

I like the pink one – I feel like the orange one might be a bit close to Jinx to have a place in my miniscule polish collection :-P

A question: you specify at the end of your post that OPI products (here, nail lacquers) are “not cruelty free”. However, on OPI site itself, in the section “About OPI / Welcome to OPI”, it clearly says the following:
“Neither OPI Nail Lacquers nor any other OPI product or service is subject to animal testing.”
So are OPI products cruelty-free or not? :(
Thank you in advance for your input. (I kind of care about this…)

    • February 11, 2014

Actually that is an error it should have said “cruelty free” and I have fixed it, sorry. Having said that though, OPI IS owned by a company that is not cruelty free, so it depends on how you look at it. OPI themselves are CF, but Coty is not.

      • February 12, 2014

Thank you for those infos. :)
However, in a concern to find out who was and who was not cruelty free (mainly for nail polish), I wrote to many companies, and Coty was one of them. Here is what they actually answered me:
“Coty Inc does not perform, nor do we ever commission any third parties on our behalf to perform, testing of our products or ingredients on animals. Attached please find our full Animal Testing Policy Statement.”
In the said Policy Statement, we can read the following:
“Coty voluntarily ceased testing finished cosmetic products on animals in 1991, long before the official European ban on such testing in 2004. Coty has been actively involved for many years in the research and development of alternatives to animal testing.”
” Our safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients is based on the use of recognized alternatives to animal testing, [...]”
“The only exceptions are the very few countries where, by law, the regulatory authorities require us to submit our products or ingredients to them for testing on animals as a mandatory part of their regulatory protocols in compliance with their local regulations.”
So to me, they ARE cruelty free, no? Do Canada and USA REQUIRE animal testing, as of today (I have seen your recent petition about the fact that USA wanted to “go back” to mandatory animal testing, so I understand it is NOT mandatory for now…?)?
Thank you in advance for your concern. :)

        • February 12, 2014

The last sentence where they say there are exceptions in a few countries means they are not cruelty-free. The USA and Canada do not require animal testing. China however does.

          • February 12, 2014

Aaah ok, I understand the detail. :( [for info, English is not my first language...]
But technically, can we understand that their USA and Canada products are NOT tested on animals? Or is it more complicated than that (as I suppose they do want to sell their products elsewhere, as in China, and would that then implies that even products selled in USA [but ALSO sold in China] will probably have been tested on animals?)?

            • February 12, 2014

It’s probably more complicated than that and honestly I don’t really trust most of these companies that use the sneaky wording. I feel like if you test anywhere in the world, because of the law or not, then you are not cruelty-free. Period. Hope that helps!

              • February 12, 2014

Hmmm, I guess you are right.
There is plenty of choice among very good cruelty free (without a doubt!) brands to avoid the ones that seems to play with words and/or regulations…
Thanks again for the infos and for your opinion about the subject. :)

Think I will pass on these, I am usually excited for the Liquid sands, but these aren’t too exciting to me. Colors are too bright for my liking,

  • February 11, 2014

I kinda like minis: I own so many polishes that at this point I am really just swatching and comparing for my readers. I would never finish a full sized bottle.

I agree. I’ve started buying mostly minis (when they’re offered) because I have so many that I never go through an entire bottle of polish. I bought the mini sands, the regular minis, and two full sized bottles of this line.

    These are so cute!

That said, while the mini’s appeal because you might have a chance to use them up, the OPI minis are so tiny that they are almost impossible for my long fingers to hold and do a decent mani.

I’ve come to really appreciate brands that put out mini’s with full sized (or near full-sized) brushes!

  • February 13, 2014

I don’t like the minis, even if they are cute, so I will not buy any of these. But I like the blue and the yellow.

Love these. Especially the size. I’m part of a DIY soak off gel group and we often pair textured’s with gel because they wear like iron.
