Kryolan High Gloss

You know how they say hindsight is 20/20? Well, you will see what I mean later on in this post.

Featured today are some Kryolan High Gloss lip glosses I picked up at IMATS. If you aren’t familiar with Kryolan it’s probably because you aren’t a professional makeup person. I wasn’t familiar with them until I started blogging and hearing about them. They are a company that caters to special effects and other professional makeup artists. They have a facility and store in San Francisco, and I took a Halloween Makeup Workshop class there last September.

Anyway, I saw some of their High Gloss shades at their booth and swatched them. I nearly died with excitement because they were so nice and pigmented. Of course there were some completely impractical (for me) shades that I liked the most, which I wound up buying because I *needed* them. I also did get one more actual wearable one as well.

Beach, Star Fruit, Blue Lagoon

Beach is a super shimmery, glossy orange.

Star Fruit is a yellow/green creme.

Blue Lagoon is an intense blue creme.

IMATS LA 2014-8

Here are some swatches I did at IMATS. I think the first pink is Marilyn, then Beach, Star Fruit, Blue Lagoon and Apricot. The bright pink on the bottom is one of their Lip Stains called Pop, which I was going to get but they were out of it.

Overall: So remember when I said hindsight is 20/20? Well after I swatched Star Fruit I realized I probably shouldn’t have bought it. Blue Lagoon isn’t exactly the kind of color I would ever actually wear either, but I still LOVE it. Star Fruit though was so incredibly lip line-y and uneven. No matter what I tried I couldn’t get it to look decent. Blue Lagoon is also lip line-y, but it still manages to look cool despite that. Beach is a lovely, very wearable shade. These have a very nice slightly fruity scent and they aren’t very sticky at all.

They come in many shades and finishes, so maybe check them out if interested!

Availability: Kryolan.

Pricing: $19.50.

Would you try any of these crazy shades or one of the more wearable ones?
