Orly Melodious Utopia

Orly Melodious Utopia

Orly Melodious Utopia came out with their spring Hope and Freedom Fest Collection.

It was a shade I initially passed on when I ordered the others online. Why? I have no idea but I recently bought it at Ulta and even though it was a real PITA to work with I still love it.

Melodious Utopia is a pale lemon yellow with tangerine/pink shimmer.

I have read some reviews where people said they used two coats but you could do three. Um I don’t know if my bottle is bad or what but I needed FOUR coats and it’s still patchy where my ridges are. Is this a ridge thing or a polish thing? I really don’t know but just two coats would not have cut the mustard for me!

Even with four thin coats, which is one beyond what I do 99.9% of the time, I still like this shade. It’s pretty unique with that shimmer and I love a cool-toned yellow.

What do you think about this shade? Will you go the extra mile (or coat) for a shade you really love or move on?

Pretty shade, but not for me! I definitely think that extra coat (or two!) is worth it for a shade I’m in with.

    That’s a really pretty yellow – I love it!

Yes, I’ll work a bit harder to get a shade I like to look good, and I always sort of expect yellows to be tricky anyway. For yellows and other *difficult* pastels, I usually do two coats, then SV, then a third coat of colour, then a final coat of SV. That seems to make them come out nice and smooth :)

I’ve never tried that, interesting approach! Maybe I’ll try and see if I can get away with three instead of four coats of this one.

I thought ORLY was owned now by Coty which does animal testing correct? I know it seems like it’s impossible to find a product that somewhere along the lines doesnt do testing on animals as it all trickles down from one that does higher up

I bought this on sale at Sally’s and I found it to be difficult to work with too! I love the color, so I think I will use it again, but I too used 4 coats.

I also had trouble with this polish and ohmylord it stained my nails sooo badly!!! I do really like it so I will most definitely layer it over white or another yellow that doesn’t stain. But it took 3 coats for me and was less than perfect at 3.

I love this color, but agree that it was/is a pain in the butt to work with. I had to use four thin layers and still had some patchy areas… and my nails are pretty much smooth, no ridges. Also, despite having a thick base coat layer, this polish stained my nails pretty badly. It looked as if I had colored my nails in with a highlighter… But, it is such a pretty shade with those pinky-peachy sparkles.
