ncLA Sweet Revenge

ncLA Sweet Revenge is a new three-piece summer 2013 collection.

If you aren’t yet familiar with ncLA they are a 5-free brand based in Los Angeles, CA. And yes that includes cruelty free as well.

Sweet Revenge was inspired by a day at the carnival. You know, when you eat light and fluffy cotton candy, ice cream with sprinkles and all sorts of tasty, sugary treats!

Not So Sweet was not so easy to apply. In fact I did two manicures with this one because the first time it just did not work. The color is a very pale pink creme and it’s really quite uneven (especially if you have ridges like me). I used three coats here and you can still see patchy, streaky areas. It might work much better over an opaque white though.

Mostly Sunny With A Chance Of Sprinkles is a sky blue with navy blue glitter pieces. If I hadn’t read on their site that the glitter is navy blue I wouldn’t have known. They look grey to my eye because many of the chunks settle deep into the polish making them look murky-ish. My bottle actually came to me 3/4 of the way empty, though none had spilled! Either way it applied really easily and I only needed two coats. You will need a thick top coat to get it feeling smooth.

Sugar Fix features a medium grey base, fuchsia micro-glitter and larger fuchsia and blue hex glitter. This one has some small application issues, but overall I really like it. The base is a little watery and kind of hard to build up because the larger glitter tends to want to get chunky and move around with each coat. I worked slowly and patiently though and managed to get it mostly even (barring a patchy area on my ring finger) with three thin coats.

Overall: I found the formula of Not So Sweet not that great because it’s so patchy. Mostly Sunny With A Chance Of Sprinkles is nice but I really wish the glitter wouldn’t sink into the polish so much. It makes it look kind of lumpy and you can’t really tell it’s navy glitter. Sugar Fix is an interesting unique shade I think.

Availability: ncLA.

Pricing: $16.00 for .5 oz.

Have you tried anything from ncLA? Do you like any of these shades?
