My Current Favorite Nail Products

black ink splash

Why hello there gentle reader.

It’s been awhile since I did an updated post about some of my favorite nail products. So what better time than now?

s Calcium

Dreams D’s Calcium

This is a very recent discovery I made and so far I am really liking. Dreams Cosmetics D’s Calcium is a calcium treatment for weak or growth-challenged nails. You just apply one coat either by itself or under a nail polish as a base coat. I like it because it’s a little white and milky, so it makes nails looks shiny and healthy. It dries quickly and my nails could always use some help with being stronger.

Nubar Diamont

Nubar Diamont Top Coat

With the exception of when they changed the formula and it was awful for a bit, Nubar Diamont has been my favorite top coat for 3 or 4 years now. It’s like the best thing on earth! For me it dries the quickest, is super glossy, doesn’t get scratches easily, doesn’t shrink around the edges and self-levels. I mean what more can one ask for? Oh yeah, it would be nice if it was easier to get. Ordering from Nubar’s site isn’t so great because their shipping prices are fairly outrageous. Try Harlow and Co.

La Corneille Brushes

La Corneille Brushes-2

Clean-up Brushes

Every nail blogger has a secret weapon for clean-up and I think most probably have one or two tiny craft brushes hanging around. They make perfect clean-up tools because they’re super small and thin so they get into tiny areas around your nails and cuticles easily. Plus they are super inexpensive so ruining them isn’t a big deal. I get mine from Michael’s Craft Store and they are between $3-5.00.

Badger Balm Cuticle Care

Badger Balm Soothing Shea Butter Cuticle Care

Lately I am in LOVE with this stuff! I did a full review awhile back but now I am using it more than even my beloved LUSH Lemony Flutter! Ok I like Lemony Flutter but noticed one particular thing which might only affect me (or those with fluffy animals)…cat hair sticks ALL over my fingers when I use it! I mean it’s kind of insane how bad it gets. If I apply it before bed, which is my norm since it’s rather greasy, and then I pull the covers over me, fuggedaboutit. But with the Badger Balm stuff I do not have that issue. It is a little “balm-y” feeling, but not greasy or sticky. And then the “balm-y” feeling goes away quickly as it absorbs and my nail area feels soft and nice. Plus the scent is a bit better (less Band-aid, more lemon) than Lemony Flutter and it’s less expensive.

Fortune Cookie Soap Whipped Cream

Fortune Cookie Whipped Cream

I’ve talked about this stuff time and time again in the last couple years and I still love it. I have many of the different scents and they are all spectacular. Some that I have are Cupcake, Caramel Apple, Honey-Dew Me, Pinky Swear, Blueberry Flap Jacks, Candy Cane Fluff, and In The Loop. Before bed I scoop out a big dollop and gleefully sniff it and rub it into my hands. So delicious, soft and yummy!

Thanks for sharing your favorite mani items, Kelly! Too bad I have no access to most of them (unless I look at a friend in the US with puppy eyes)!

My favorite top coat is Dior Top Coat, though I’ve been using the Dior Gel Coat very often too. It takes much longer to dry, but it makes nail polish last longer and really really shine! My favorite hand cream for the moment is Aesop Reverence. The earthy smell, texture, and moisturization make it really amazing!

Great post! I needed a new cuticle product because my Julep Mighty oil just wasn’t cutting it. I love Nubar, too!

Those are some amazing recommendations! I would really love to try the calcium product if it does help your nails. My nails are insanely weak and split super easily :(

I’m always so interested in your favorites…especially since you go through and see SO many different brands and colors of nail polish.

I’m definitely interested in that Nubar Diamont Top Coat and the Shea Butter Cuticle Care. I have been using the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Enamel….and it left my nails shiny, but bubbly – and it scratched easily since it took longer to dry.

    Loved this post!!

I love Nubar Diamont also! I’m using up my Lemony Flutter, but I’ll try the Badger Balm next. My go-to hand cream is the Silky Soy Whip from Lilypad Bathworks.

Gelous Advanced Nail Gel coat has been doing wonders for my nail strength lately! I keep meaning to try out a new topcoat but my local drugstore (or chemist as we Aussies call it :P) was having a BOGO on Revlon so I ended up with 2 bottles of Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat – making it my 3rd or maybe even 4th repurchase!

I recently bought Sukin Hand & Nail Cream and I’m absolutely loving it. It smells lovely and sinks in SO fast, I’m applying it over and over again at work to counteract my hands getting dried out by all the paper I’m handling.

My current favourite topcoat is Essence Better Than Gel Nails (high gloss version), but you make me wanna try Nubar’s one!
By the way, BeautyBay carries it, too, and they have free worldwide delivery! :)

For anyone struggling to get hold of the Nubar top coat, sell it for £7 with free delivery worldwide. it’s where I get most of my nubar polish as the delivery’s really quick (at least in the UK)

I feel the same about Lemony Flutter; I really don’t like how greasy/sticky it stays regardless of how much I rub rub rub it in. I don’t have the cat hair problem (no cats), but typing after moisturizing? Ew!

I love Badger Cuticle balm! That’s a great idea about the little brushes. I get my nails done but I could use something like that for when I polish my toes.

I’ve been wanting to try Diamont for years but I was afraid after hearing about the formula changes. Have they officially gone back to the “good” formula now? ^_^

    • June 16, 2013

Yes they have and it’s fabulous! Definitely try it.:)
