Revlon Chroma Chameleon Swatches and Review

Revlon Chroma Chameleon

Revlon Chroma Chameleon is a new limited edition collection which features eight duo and multi-chrome metallic shades.

I had my eyes peeled for these for awhile and finally spotted these five at a Rite Aid near me. They should be at Walgreens/Rite Aid and CVS (and possibly Meijer and Harmon, which we don’t have in the Bay Area).

The three I didn’t get were Aquamarine, Gold and Cobalt.

The formula with these was decent, not perfect. Since they are metallic they tend to be a little brush-stroke-y. Most were just two coats but two I used three.

Revlon Chroma Chameleon-2
Tanzanite, Pink Quartz, Amethyst, Rose Gold and Topaz

Pink Quartz is a pink/gold shade. Ironically it looks like a rose gold to me more than the one actually named Rose Gold. Odd. Anyway the duochrome effect is rather subtle with this one. It’s a bit on the sheer side so I used three thin coats.

Rose Gold is a warm old-gold/bronze with flashes of green. Really it just looks gold/bronze for the most part. Subtle duochrome effect. This was two coats but my nails tips are showing so I could have used three.

Tanzanite is a royal purple that looks like it flashes gold in the bottle, but it doesn’t really translate onto the nail much. This was two coats.

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Topaz
Topaz (flash)

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Topaz-2
Topaz (indoor lighting)

Topaz is a vivid green which flashes a deeper green and slightly gold here and there. The gold is more apparent in the bottle than on the nail and you see some blue in the bottle as well. This was two coats and yes, I created a mess when I smudged it. Oops!

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Amethyst

Amethyst (indoor lighting)

Amethyst is the only true multichrome here. It starts off as an amethyst purple and then flashes to grey and green under various lighting. I like this one and feel it was the best one. This was two coats.

Overall: Meh. I mean they look ok on the nail but I wasn’t blown away with the duochrome effect with most of them. Not loving the brush strokes either. I’ve definitely seen much better duochromes from other brands. I think the most interesting ones were Amethyst and Topaz. Also not loving the price for the amount you get!

Availability: Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS, etc.

Pricing: $8-9.00 for 0.29 oz.

What do you think about these? Anything you found or want to find?

Pink Quartz looks a bit similar to Deborah Lippmann’s Sugar Daddy (which i happen to be wearing today).

I may pick up pink quartz and amythest…if I see them on sale.

They remind me of the Hard Candy chrome polishes. I think I’ll stick with those since they are cheaper and have similar effects! Thanks for sharing these! PS – because of you missy I own like 11 Impala polishes now once they get delivered. :p

I like Topaz and Amethyst the most too, but I don’t understand why all metallic nail polishes have to be somehow streaky!

So disappointing. If I see duochrome colors, I really want them to shift.

  • May 23, 2013

really wish Revlon would bring back the Zing duochromes or the StreetWear type edgy colors they used to do. there is a void in the market that they used to have covered and people are begging for it to return. Topaz is nice. probably the only one I will look at. I wonder what is up with the different bottles.

      StreetWear was awesome!

Oh my Vampy why do you do this to me…I can’t resist….I just got to get my hands on the topaz, it’s so beautiful. Girl, you make every single color look irresistible :D

Thank you for swatching these! I had been wondering if these were as Duo-Chromey (is that a word?) as some of the other brands. Good to know they are not.

Couldn’t wear these as I am so OCD the brush strokes would bug me!

AW! I’m so disappointed! Not in the colors, but the fact that you didn’t get Gold.

I just came home from school, and after school, I always stop at the Walgreen’s on the corner (because that’s where the bus drops me off.) And I was rooting through the clearance section and I came across what looked like seriously the coolest color ever, for only $0.49!

Whenever I come home, I always check your site. (I check FB, dA, Midorea, YT, QC, Tumblr, and Etsy as well, for anyone who cares.) And I was totally surprised to see that, boom, you had reviewed these!

So I was like, “Awesome, I can check out what my color looks like then! But you didn’t get that one D:

Still, these look great, and I can’t wait to try mine out.

    • May 23, 2013

I got all the ones they had!

      • May 24, 2013

Aw, okay! Well, thank you for your reviews, you’re sooo awesome. <3

I saw these at Ulta last weekend. They aren’t terrible looking, but I’m kind of glad I didn’t pick any up.

These are nice, I don’t know how I missed the news that these were coming out?? I hate how small the drugstore polishes are going :(.

I bought Amethyst a couple of months ago because it looked so much like one of my favorite Revlon colors, Khaki Zing. They are complete dupes. I was annoyed that the polish is called Amethyst since there is already a Revlon ColorStay polish called Amethyst, but whatever. I was also pretty disappointed by the size of the bottle. Thanks for sharing your lovely swatches.

I’m glad I saw your review, as I was tempted by these initially. I can pass them by now:-)

This is SO weird! All the blog reviews of Tanzanite (the only one I picked up, since I have dupes or near-dupes of the others. Nail Prisms – holla!) say the same thing you do, but I got a STRONG gold to purple shift. Almost makes me wonder if some batches were what they were supposed to be but then other batches got messed up somehow?

Too iridescent for anyone older than 14!!

I bought the Amethyst one and I really don’t like it. It didn’t seem too duochrome. I expected the colors to shift like they do in the bottle but my nails just look like they’re grey. Really not impressed, especially since they’re not cheap.
