theBalm Meet Matt(e) Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and Review

theBalm Meet Matte

Have you met Matt(e) yet? Come and check out theBalm Meet Matt(e) Eyeshadow Palette and get familiar with him, wontcha?

Matt(e) is 6’2″, has blue eyes, and enjoys long walks on the beach, creamy eyeshadows and fabulous liners. At least that’s according to his bio on the back of his eyeshadow palette.

Meet Matt(e) comes with nine small matte eyeshadows and a mini two-sided brush. Also inside you’ll find a handy-dandy mirror.

Now as I wrote this and look at theBalm’s new website I realize I don’t see this palette listed as being for sale anymore. I do see a newer version of Meet Matt(e) in Nude! This one features nine shades also, a mirror and nine different nude matte shades than this one.

theBalm Meet Matte-3

theBalm Meet Matte Swatches
Matt Smith, Matt Gallagher, Matt Ramirez, Matt McDonald, Matt Horowitz (over primer)

Matt Smith is a pale vanilla shade. A bit on the chalky side!

Matt Gallagher is a camel shade. Pretty, nice texture.

Matt Ramirez is a rich chocolate brown shade. Nice payoff and texture.

Matt McDonald is a dark charcoal/blue smoky shade. This isn’t so matte, it has a bit of sheen to it.

Matt Horowitz is a medium smoked out blue shade. This one also has a slight sheen.

theBalm Meet Matte Swatches-2
Matt Chung, Matt Batali, Matt Schilling, Matt Patel (over primer)

Matt Chung is a pale pink. Chalky!

Matt Batali is a dark purple shade. Nice payoff and texture with this shade.

Matt Schilling is a medium slate green shade. Gorgeous color, slight sheen to it.

Matt Patel is a cool-toned taupe. Really nice soft shade.

Availability: Well I would say theBalm or Sephora but it appears it’s not there right now. Maybe they will bring it back!

Did you ever get familiar with Matt(e)?

    I. WANT. THIS.

The brown shades almost remind me of the NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadows.

This is closer to my dream matte palette. I would love to see a palette of all plums or color without neutrals. May have to give this one some serious consideration.

Not only did I get Matt(e), I got Matt(e) Nude ;) I adore this palette. The top row from mine especially has seen a lot of use as each of those shades can complete any eye look.

The quality looks great on all of those. I’d happily buy it except A) 5 of the shades I’d never, ever wear and B) seriously? They had to theme it like their entire demographic is a bunch of hormonal boy-crazy TeenBeat-reading junior high girls? What-effing-ever. I’m rolling my eyes so hard it hurts.

Aside from the fact that they might as well just say “We don’t believe that homosexual females could ever possibly be interested in eye shadow,” I would really appreciate it if cosmetics companies as a whole would get off of the Sexy-Maneater-Princess-Trollop thing. There is literally an entire universe’s worth of name/theme inspirations. It doesn’t all have to be pin-up girls and sparkly fairies, yo. And that’s Today’s Rant. :(

The brand’s entire theme is 50’s pin-up girl so…that kind of explains it. Having said that I can see your point!

Lovely shades. I really wanted to get this at the theBalm sale but couldn’t find it.

Haha nope, too bad Matt(e) is not my type ;) I don’t wear matte shades well. I can use some in my “crease (have to quote this word because I have monolids),” but if I use a matte (or satiny even sometimes) shade for my inner corners or first half of my lids, my eyes look dull. I do think this one will work well probably particularly for those with a cooler undertone though!

I’m not usually one for matte eye shadows, but I guess I had never seen this swatched before. I really like it! And theBalm has the nicest packaging. It makes me want to have a Mad Men marathon.

I hope they bring this back as I haven’t gotten it yet! If not, does have it. They are my fall back for older items I have a hard time finding elsewhere.

I just purged this palette. With all the palette’s I have, I never reached for this one. I suppose it’s good for someone with a small stash, but better matte colors in the Lorac Pro.

  • April 25, 2013

I have had this palette for quite a while & I really enjoy it. Having said that I add that the BEST matte eyeshadows I have worn in my 40 years of using makeup, is made by LA FEMME. I am in Australia and although La Femme products aren’t sold here, I buy them through a website called Camera Ready Cosmetics who are based in the US and post worldwide.

LA Femme shadows are the only eyeshadow that gets an all over A+ from me.

TheBalm Meet Matt(e) palette is good and very usable and using La Femme as my point of reference, Matt(e) gets a general B in rating.

Cute packaging, don’t care too much for the colors though. The nude one would probably be more my style ;)

I had this but ended up giving it to my DIL because she wanted a selection of matte shadows. They all look a bit chalky to me in the swatches. I love theBalm in general but I think I’m better off without matte shadows.

Only commenting because the Whovian in me perked up at “Matt Smith”. Then realised it was a matte shadow palette and got disappointed. LOL
